“Disappointing”

PROS:
Nice location, nice pool, wifi in lobby, friendly staff, great view of the beach. Close walk to Flagler avenue.
CONS:
We were put up an 8th floor unit for 3 days by a neighbouring timeshare. From the outside it was promissing but once inside we were a bit taken aback. The floor was old stained mexican tile with 1" wide black grout lines that were extremely dirty. We set our daughter on the floor for 10 minutes and her pants were black. There was no broom provided with the room to keep it clean.
The kitchen has cracked tile and the countertop was peeling back. The master bedroom had a poor bed. The master bedroom had vertical blinds that were missing 3 or 4 pieces, which happened to line up with the morning sun so it was difficult to sleep in. There was a fan in the batroom with a filter which needed cleaning so bad it looked like fur. The furnace closert had a louver below that was broken and out little one could reach into.

“Great location - needs new mattresses and security guard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

I traveled to Oceania with a group of friends this past weekend. We stayed in rooms 409 & 508.
I would recommend this place on the pure basis of location and cleanliness.

Cons:
-very uncomfortable mattresses, and stained
-Security guard is extremely rude. A group of us were in the elevator going down, chatting in a normal tone. When the door opened, the security guard yelled at us to be quiet after 10pm and told my friend to "shut her mouth and leave" . It was an extremely uncomfortable situation presented to a group of women that were chatting in an elevator.... definitely an unnecessary and unwelcoming tone and attitude
-Parking. Policies are not indicated on the website. They were kind enough to give us two passes per unit, but more than that was not allowed. I wish we knew beforehand so we could have planned/carpooled accordingly

Pros:
-Walking distance to Flagler
-Very clean
-The woman who runs the front desk is very sweet and helpful

“Beautiful Location and Room!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Our room on the fourth floor was beautifully decorated - a beautiful seaside theme. The room was spacious and there was bedding for all six of us. The sofa bed was a little uncomfortable, but bearable. The owners of this apartment have great thoughtful touches - movies to watch and body boards for the beach! The location was fantastic :) I would definitely stay here again :)

“Great Accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

Stayed at The Oceania in May. The unit was clean and well furnished. The beach was but a few yards away. Flagler Ave. was an adventure. I would like to commend the staff at The Oceania. Always willing to help. I will definitly return and suggest to friends and family to vacation at The Oceania. The unit had 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, a living room with a well stocked kitchen and dining table. Great for families!

Thanks to all the staff at The Oceania and next year I'll be there once again.

Sincerely,
Nancy

“Great location but has seen better days”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2010

We reserved a 2 BR, 2 Bath directly with an owner. (Suite 502) Reading their description and having answered our questions affirmatively, we were directed to call Oceanfront with deposit and other info. No problem, though a week went by and I still didn't have a deposit receipt. Called again and they had my CC info, but hadn't run the card. So we firmed that up to ensure we had the reservation.

Oceanfront is in, what we think is, a great location in New Smyrna Beach. Short walking distance to Flager Ave, beautiful beach and great view of the Atlantic from our 5th floor unit. Unfortunately, the accommodation was not as nice as advertised. Definitely an older building that was being refurbished. Outside the room and in the lobby area, seemed like they have done this. But the room still has a ways to go. Bathroom was only partially done with an odd paint job and signs of age. The chairs on the balcony looked like they needed to be replaced, and I would have only sat in them on a towel. (But the number of towels was pretty limited, so no extras for that. "All new appliances" in 2008 was advertised, but the stove already looked 10 years old and the refrigerator has rust spots on the side toward the sink. Lamps were missing shades and at least half the light switches controlled nothing. We had asked the owner about televisions and were correctly told each room had one. However, the one in the Master BR had no sound. Very dusty and obviously has about had it. We also booked this room because we needed internet access. "Wireless internet access" was advertised on the owner's VRBO site, as well as on Oceania's website. However, this was only true if you were down in the lobby. Have never seen anything advertised as having wireless access, yet that access was not in the room! We were told if we wanted wireless in the room, it was $15 a day. Couldn't prove that, as we didn't have enough signal for anything to even purchase. Explained this to a couple different receptionists, but they didn't offer any other option than using our computer in the lobby. (As long as it wasn't Sunday morning when they were having a church service...) I had also mentioned some of the room issues, the receptionist immediately asked if we wanted to move to a different room, but we were only stayed for a few days and were leaving the next morning. I did appreciate the offer, however. As some have said, "maid service" involved a weekday morning knock on the door, replacement of towels and emptying of garbage. Don't usually get that with a condo rental, so it was fine.

Overall, fair enough for a short stay, though I wouldn't call $170 a night "cheap." We were only in the room after dark, so tolerable. But if I was basing my vacation around pool and beach where I was hanging around the building most of the time, I'd probably look elsewhere. (Though the pool looked decent and the ocean and beach looked great. Other than the fact this is a 'driveable' part of the beach.)

We recently noticed the review from JENNMC regarding a March 2010 stay in our unit. We are always grateful for customer feedback and thanked her for the review. We love New Smyrna Beach (NSB) and the family-friendly atmosphere it offers. We are excited to update our unit this month with new carpeting, dining seating, patio seating, and lamps. We hope everyone who stays with us can feel at home and enjoy NSB as much as we do!
