My regular vacation spot in new smyrna was booked up, so i did a timeshare transter to the Islander......what a happy find!
The staff is SO incredibly friendly, the grounds are safe and secure, the rooms are cute and perfect for a beach town. The large pool, beachfront access (which is gated and only accessible by room key!) and 2 hot tubs were perfect!! A fitness room, gameroom, free internet room with computers, hotel activities, connecting restaurant and day spa are all on the grounds.
The comfy room was simple, yet nice. we had a "one bedroom suite" which is a cute little room with a mini kitchen, sleeper sofa, table to seat 4 and a room, divided with plantaition shutters to make a bedroom. it was rather cute. the room is decorated in the typical "beachy, carib, southern" pastel colors. Bathroom was a bit tight. toilet and tub are separated from vanity. the tub/toilet room was tight, (i'm thin too), i couldn't imagine a heavy-set person or a very large statured person using this area comfortably.
Bed was firm, typical hotel pillows were TOO soft. A call to housekeeping had 4 more pillows sent up in record time!!! The flat screen tv went on the fritz and was replace in supersonic time!!
Front desk girls were INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful, as was ALL the staff!!
DON'T pay any attention to any of the bad reviews. they were left by miserable people who nit-pick over minutia!
I'm glad we stayed at the Islander resort!!

We just got back from a week stay at the resort. We went through our RCI points program and do not regret anything about choosing this resort. I saw nothing whatsoever to substantiate any of the negative comments below and believe they are merely outdated. The staff was extremely friendly, the resort well-kept and our room was lovely. The weather was very cold when we first got there and our heat was not working - it was fixed immediately. They have planned activities from Sun-Thurs and amenities for everyone from kids to adults. Great pool, very nice cafe, and a good location within walking distance to most of what NSB has to offer.

I was rather skeptical about staying here after reading some of the other reviews but was actually quite pleased with our stay. Yes, the elevator is slow, the air conditioner in the bedroom is noisy, and if you're using the maximum sleeping capacity it is rather cramped. However, we only used the murphy bed & sofa bed at night, so that really wasn't an issue for us. We simply dealt with the air conditioner noise and the elevator. It's not a glamorous 5-star facility, but it is clean, the staff are friendly, there are daily activities, and the pool area was fantastic. There were lots of restaurants within walking distance, or a very short drive, but it was also nice to have a cafe/bar/snack area right on site for that quick snack of nachos or french fries. There is also a spa on site, but we didn't use the facility. We've stayed at many ocean front areas, and I will say I've never seen a cleaner ocean. I'm not really an ocean person, but I could wade out above my waist and still "see" my feet (thus giving me the ability to see anything that might consider swimming around me!). Overall, we had a very enjoyable week! If you're not looking for a fancy resort to be pampered at, I would definitely recommend Islander Beach Resort!
