“" A GEM "”

We are from Miami and we could not believe that we were just about one hour and half from all the "Miami Mayhem" and rude people. This hotel was everything we hoped for. We came down for about 4 days to celebrate my birthday and we were not disapointed one bit. The hotel is an older one but very clean place, with a wonderful clean pool and a very nice and friendly atmosphere. The owner was charming and very helpful. We were in the middle of a very high end neighborhood and within steps of a beautiful beach and the famous Fishing Pier. Their "little downtown" is within walking distance with lots of shops and restaurants. Also very close to the Olde Naples Downtown. Our stay there was perfect, we will surely visit again, and again since is so affordable and near where we live. This is the perfect place for a nice escape for some "R& R" or a romantic weekend. Adriana

“Superb stay: clean and quiet & beach very close”

We've been at this hotel between XMAS and New Year and we were 100% satisfied !
It was our first visit on the west coast and we've totally enjoyed every day !
Check-in/check-out quick and simple; the appartment was functional (living/dining, kitchen, bedroom); they even have a small library; also Mr. Gilbert was very friendly with us! Thank you. All in all, the place is very clean, quiet and secure. Parking is included in the room price and you have a reserved place. Hotel doesn't have a spa or business center, but who cares, for us only the beach counts... and the beach is at 2 min walking distance from the hotel !
Naples (we've been in Old Naples part) is a splendid small city, very clean, with nice shopping (Macy's, Dillard's, Caché) and restaurants (on 3rd and 5th). For sure we will be back!

“Nice quality next to the Gulf with lots of room ...”

We arrived at 6pm without any reservations and received a clean comfortable 3 room efficiency that partially overlooked the Gulf of Mexico. Two comfortable single beds in the BR separate from the kitchen/living room combo, and bath. We were pleased with the cleanliness, location, and quietness. A motel with character, beautiful landscaping, a very large outdoor fenced pool. The furniture is dated but in well kept quality condition. Certainly not top of the line but we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend to anyone not looking for glitz and gloss.

“No Country for Old Men”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2008

If you liked the atmosphere of the motel in No Country for Old Men, this is it. I liked the location, a half block from the Naples Pier and from the Palm Cottage, plus from the old downtown, and a lot of restaurants.

It was hard to book. and took several emails, and a couple of calls. Upon arrival, I got charged for the entire stay. If you want to leave early you must argue for a refund.

The furniture appears to have been picked up from the curbside trash dumped in a poor neighborhood. I never get back aches, even after lifting heavy objects. I got one from the saggy mattress. The pillows were about 2 inches high, and may have been picked up as prison surplus.

The lock on the door? What lock on the door. One could lock the wiggly knob, and push a thin bolt an inch into the door jam.

I left the windows open for a full day. Upon return, the moldy smell was unchanged.

And the demeanor of the staff? See my comment on the pillow as prison surplus.

  • Liked — Fantastic location
  • Disliked — It was a dump. No maid service. One must pay for maid service.

“A authentic retro motel in the absolute best location in Naples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2008

First, let me say that Naples is an outstanding place to visit. It is comparable to LaJolla California in that it is posh and high end. It caters to an older crowd but I could not consider it a blue hair haven, The restaurants, shopping, coffee shops (no Starbucks!!!) are all first rate from what I saw. It is definitely a place to visit and stay a few days.
I walked onto the Mariner Motel because of is location and found it to be a classic 1950ish motel that is about 100 yards from the center or Old Naples and the beach. My room was clean with a living room, bed room kitchenette and all the accompaniments. It was commensurate 1950 motif too. I loved every second of it.
The walk to the city center takes about 3 minutes and there are numerous restaurants mad shops to keep you occupied. I would highly recommend this motel and Naples.
Two of the great joys I had while staying there was eating mussels at the Ridgeway Bar and Grill and smoking a cigar at Vincente of London Cigar Lounge, both a few blocks from the motel. I had the best mussels at Ridgeway and am posting a picture of them so everyone can see them. And Vincente of London Cigar Lounge is also a bar and high end coffee shop. It drips with class and sophistication. The owner and cliental were interesting and friendly. It was another reason my trip to Napes was so great.
Bottom line is if you are going to the Gulf Coast of Florida do not miss Naples or these stops.
