The phrase "they made us feel right at home" in referring to a lodging has never been more appropriate.
We were visiting for a quick weekend getaway to see Mount Dora and to spend a relaxing evening together. Even before we arrived, Carole and Kathy make sure we would feel welcome. Carole took my reservation over the phone and made sure to note both our first names (which she used to greet us on arrival) and whether we had any food allergies, etc. My girlfriend is cursed with an allergy to chocolate and so instead of chocolate chip the welcome cookies that day were an amazing coconut melt-in-your-mouth recipe.
On arrival we drove into a densely wooded lot. The building has front and back porches with rocking chairs and knicknacks - whimsical but not too overly "cute". The downstairs areas, with the fireplace, breakfast room, and kitchen, make you feel as if you're visiting friends at a pleasant country home, which, in a way, you are. Carole and Kathy are every bit as friendly, chatty, and helpful as described in the other reviews. The Inn is a short 10 minute drive from Mount Dora - you can take Route 441 or a hand-drawn map will be provided so you can take a shorter route via neighborhood roads to get there, which is a much more pleasant drive.
The 4 rooms are all upstairs. There is a coffee/tea station in the main upstairs foyer (the coffee is excellent) and a little room with arts/crafts from local vendors which are available for sale. We were given a tour of 3 of the 4 rooms (as the 4th was occupied), and they all looked very well-appointed and spotlessly clean. For us, however, there was really only one choice -- Hilda's room, which has a king-sized 4 poster bed, a gas fireplace and a deep 2-person jacuzzi that actually fits two people comfortably. There is also a big TV (no flat screen yet but who wants to watch TV when you can relax in the jacuzzi or sit by the fire?) and DVR, small refrigerator stocked with beverages, a big shower, bathrobes, and all the usual toiletries (plus bathsalts for the tub...). There is also free WiFi for those who need to stay connected with the outside world, but I would avoid doing that at all costs. ;)
In the morning breakfast is served at your pre-selected time - the famous cinnamon roles are as good as advertised,,. an egg casserole, just-baked biscuits, fresh seasonal fruit and orange juice. There were leftovers from breakfast and Carole offered to wrap them up for us to take them along on our way home.
This is a wonderful place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet outpost from which to explore Mount Dora and the surrounding area, or as its own destination. In our case, with the fireplace and jacuzzi right there in our room - we came back to the Inn after an early dinner, locked the door behind us and had no use for the rest of the world until morning....
Room Tip: Hilda's room has a gas fireplace and 2 person jacuzzi.
