This is a pretty decent hotel for the Ocean Drive strip of Miami Beach (for those not familiar, Ocean Drive is littered with innumerable hotels). We were pleasantly surprised at check-in to find out we would be getting free Wi-Fi and full breakfast every day of our stay. The hotel also came with a 24-hour gym and provided tea and coffee throughout the day. The rooms were also very pleasant, definitely large enough to move around comfortably. The bathroom, as other reviewers have noted, were outdated but again this was not a huge issue. The beds were not wonderful either, being far too soft for our tastes. The location is okay-we were in the backside so we didn't hear any noise from Ocean Drive. However, we were a distance away from the major restaurants/bars of Miami (at least 10-12 blocks away). But our major issue lay in the fact that the shower drain had not been cleaned; as a result, the room flooded the third night of our stay, with water leaking all the way out to the hallway. As soon as we notified the front desk, this was taken care of but we were definitely displeased that given the small wall between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, management didn't take more care to clean the drain. Management also did not do anything about our clothes that had gotten soaked by the flooding. This is probably a idiosyncratic issue that many reviewers probably will not experience but it did color our stay somewhat-if not for this, I would have given the hotel four stars.
Room Tip: Rooms in the backside have less noise but no ocean view. Make sure the drain is cleaned in the show...

The beacon hotel is very popular among our guest and competitors as a hotel with very comfortable beds; in the past we have numerous occasions from our guest all over calling or writing to inquire about the mattress in our rooms as to purchase them. I understand that each individual as a unique needs when it comes to mattress level of comfort. I’m sorry we did not meet your preference on this area. We have some room with firmer mattress, please do inform me directly when next you plan to visit as to enable me personally make sure you have a firm bed in your room.
