As a Diamond Hilton member, this Doubletree property did a nice job of recognizing my status. I was upgraded to a large suite (2 bedrooms, full kitchen, whirlpool tub, huge patio with ocean views) and they give you a 25% discount on food and beverage in addition to the normal status perks.
That being said, while the property is clean and the room was very large, the property needs to be updated. The cabinets are chipped, the bathroom fixtures are from the early '90s, the tile and grout are showing their age, doors are beat up, etc.
While the lobby area looks like it was recently updated, it has no warmth or atmosphere. The restaurant, bar, registration desk, etc all flow together. There is nothing that invites you to sit at the hotel bar and enjoy the view with your friends. The restuarant is best for breakfast and skip it for anything else. It is cold and uninspired.
The beach is nice, clean and the hotel does offer some nice views. The pool area is a little small (but not uncommon for this area). But again, the pool area lacks personality. Feels very sterile.
The other issue for the property is that it is far away from any nightlife or restuarant choices. There are a few restuarants to walk to but make no mistake, this property is a good 30 minutes by car from the South Beach area. If you are expecting to be close to that area, think again. On the flip side, this stretch of beach was quiet if that is what you are looking for.
Finally, the large patio and room were big pluses. It made up for a lot. However, keep your expectations in check and don't go into the hotel thinking this is a high end hotel (even though the prices may make you think it is).
