“Far away from the action and dated”

As a Diamond Hilton member, this Doubletree property did a nice job of recognizing my status. I was upgraded to a large suite (2 bedrooms, full kitchen, whirlpool tub, huge patio with ocean views) and they give you a 25% discount on food and beverage in addition to the normal status perks.

That being said, while the property is clean and the room was very large, the property needs to be updated. The cabinets are chipped, the bathroom fixtures are from the early '90s, the tile and grout are showing their age, doors are beat up, etc.

While the lobby area looks like it was recently updated, it has no warmth or atmosphere. The restaurant, bar, registration desk, etc all flow together. There is nothing that invites you to sit at the hotel bar and enjoy the view with your friends. The restuarant is best for breakfast and skip it for anything else. It is cold and uninspired.

The beach is nice, clean and the hotel does offer some nice views. The pool area is a little small (but not uncommon for this area). But again, the pool area lacks personality. Feels very sterile.

The other issue for the property is that it is far away from any nightlife or restuarant choices. There are a few restuarants to walk to but make no mistake, this property is a good 30 minutes by car from the South Beach area. If you are expecting to be close to that area, think again. On the flip side, this stretch of beach was quiet if that is what you are looking for.

Finally, the large patio and room were big pluses. It made up for a lot. However, keep your expectations in check and don't go into the hotel thinking this is a high end hotel (even though the prices may make you think it is).

Clean, tidy hotel, didn't have any food but room was clean and spacious for two people. The shower room looked like a space ship that had landed in the room but it was cleaned every day and it served it's purpose.

“So Disappointed!! Hilton should divorce this property!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

For a hotel of this caliber, it was a huge disappointment. The rooms are extremely antiquated and should be an embarassment to the Hilton name. The kitchen was from the 1970's and to make matters worse the paint on the cabinet doors was peeling, the counters were cracked all over, and the white refrigerator was yellow. The mirrors on the closet doors were coming off and are antiquated looking. The doors to the balcony were impossible to open. For $400 plus per night you expect a much better property. I will say that the staff was very nice and helpful. Hilton should come take a look at this property!!

“Very Spacious Suite but needs Updating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent a long weekend at the Doubletree in North Miami Beach. We had originally booked a hotel room but were upgrading to a one bedroom suite which was a very nice surprise. Even though we arrived at 1 AM, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The suite had a large living area and a large bedroom with ample closet space, including a walk in closet. The kitchen had marble counters, full sized fridge, oven, microwave and dishwasher. There was a large deck with a partial ocean view, a table and two chairs, as well as a chaise lounge. The beach was beautiful (though chair rentals were $10 for the day) and the pool, though small, looked nice.

This could be a five star facility if everything was updated. The floor had stains, and we noticed a few stains on the couch as well. We had a late flight back, and we were able to change in the spa, but the lockers there were missing keys and there was no soap, shampoo or conditioner in the spa showers. The people though were terrific, friendly and helpful, so this hotel has great potential if they updated the physical plant.

Room Tip: Try to ask for an upgrade, they may do it if you a a Hilton HHonors member

“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We are Hilton Diamond so we got upgraded to a 1KBed Suite in 2606 and it was amazing. Beautiful views of ocean and city (it would probably be noisy on lower floors), full kitchen, washer/dryer, very comfortable king bed, big balcony with a table and two chairs, brand new tv's with pc/hdmi connections, free breakfast downstairs and roomservice thanks to our status.

I have not seen the standard rooms but the suite is great and the staff is very friendly. Most rooms would have a great view.

Pricey things: Parking is $27 a night and beach chairs $22 a day, no half day price.
