“GAVE MY ROOM AWAY AND LEFT ME OUT ON THE STREET. TERRIBLE SERVICE.”

I called these guys weeks before my trip out to Miami to place a reservation. Red flag number one that they're running on a completely antiquated system should've been when I heard this guy FLIPPING THROUGH A RESERVATION BOOK, as opposed to typing on a computer when checking for availability (a system I would have had no problem with IF IT WORKED, read on).

Called on a Friday afternoon only to be told to call back Monday morning. Called back on Monday and was told to call back the next day. BAM red flag number two. I feel dumb for not knowing right there that this place didn't have their act together. The old codger sounded like he was taking a nap and I was disturbing his sleep! Called back on the Tuesday and they took my name down and said my reservation was placed. Again, I should've known something was up when they didn't even ask for a card to make the hold.

Get to Miami and stay at the place we're supposed to stay for our first two nights, everything cool there. Call the Alamo to ask how to get there and am told that my reservation ISN'T THERE. They booked it to someone else who walked in. Obviously we were totally screwed due to the time of year that we were in Miami (WMC, everything booked solid). I had half a mind to go out there and have it out with him but honestly the guy sounds like he's on his last leg and that really wouldn't have gotten me anywhere. So now I have to call every hotel in town, all of which were booked up. Luckily my friends had rented a condo and let me crash on the floor but obviously that's no way to vacation.

The guy that runs this place sounds like Lurch from The Addams Family. They're obviously stuck in the past and have no idea how to run a hotel in the here and now. Save your money for something that's guaranteed and entered into some sort of database (which I'm sure they don't even have) it'll probably save you A LOT of headache in the end.

“Great Price for a Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2009

It's an old hotel, with an elevator that works. It's old and not beautiful, but it's clean. The owner and people who works there are very friendly. At the last day I checked out at 11am, but my flight was only at 9, so I let my 7 bags with them in a small room at the first floor and walked the city. When I came back it was all ok... Even my laptop... It's two or three blocks from the beach... Although it doesn't have wi-fi, I got one from another place at my room... And I payed only US$ 55 per day... I recommend...

“great location, terrible hotel”

The location was great....just three blocks away from the beach. The hotel itself was a disaster. It was borderline clean, but only in terms of the bed linen. I couldnt put my clothes in the drawers because they didnt open, and i was scared to go into the shower without my flip-flops. Although it was safe because the only inhabitants were elderly orthodox jewish couples, it wasnt friendly or pleasant. Again, if you're looking for a place as CHEAP as possible (even if it means not clean and without any ammenities) in a great neighborhood, then this is perfect. But if you want to have a fun time with friends or show your kids how to travel, you do not want to stay here!

“Miami's hot tip for budget travellers”

I can only speak very warmly about the lovely Alamo Hotel. I was very happy there during my three day stay there in April 2008. It is excellently located, not more than 50 m away from the beach. We paid about USD 60 while chain hotels next door charge up to three times that sum.

The rooms are simple but have all the amenities which you can expect. I loved the people who run the hotel who are sweet and helpful. To my mind, Alamo hotel is just it. Highly recommendable!!

“poor accomodations”

stayed at this hotel for one week while in transition of moving..
friendly old lady runs during day.. run down building and rooms with mismatched old furnishings..okay if u like simple bed, no headboard, no view, 20yr old drapes that barely cover the window, air cond. unit that didn't cool, rickity chest with ancient TV with a dial control, small table and chair.. that's it. Has residents that rent by the week that are undesirable, nosey.. refused maid service but when I left to eat, she came in anyhow and let my kitten that was staying in the room out the building and it was subsequently lost for good..(should have sued them, but didn't) however, she was friendly. Fine place if u don't care about your room or surroundings.
