Everyone of the staff members (front desk clerks, bartender, bar back, doormen, maintenance, etc.) were polite, friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here for that reason alone. The location of the hotel (off of Collins Avenue) can be quite noisy up until the early morning hours but you'll find this anywhere along the main streets in South Beach. Try to get one of the rooms in the adjacent portion of the hotel and not in the main hotel as they have exterior access and outdoor lounge areas. The free happy hour from 7 to 8 p.m. was worth it but please tip the staff as they work hard; I was appalled at how many people didn't! The room itself could've used a bit of work (chipped doors, missing baseboards, chips and dings) but I've seen much worse in the area and it is an older building; the room overall was tastefully decorated in a modern motif and included iPod connection for music and a flat screen television. The location (one block from the beach and Ocean Drive and within walking distance to Lincoln Road and nice shops) and the staff make this a good place to stay. P.S. They had no issue holding our luggage before or after our check in/out time and let us use the roof top sundeck facilities until our shuttle back to the airport (6 hours later). Also, the free shuttle service that the hotel offers saves you a few bucks and gets you there quickly.
