“Great Value!”

First let me start off by saying I am in LOVE with Miami. It is one of the greatest cities on earth in my opinion. I have gone just about every year for the past 6 years with my girlfriends for a quick getaway and we have almost ALWAYS stayed here (if rooms were available) The rooms are clean, stylish, comfortable and most importantly we've never had any issues. The staff has always been great. I just booked for our trip in March and realized I didnt use their 10% coupon. One quick phone call to Louis in reservations changed that.

This hotel is quiet, and most importantly - located at the heart of everything. a quick walk to mangos, wicked willys, the beach, the clubs on washington. for the price its everything you could ask for. if you want a fancy frilly place, then yes go elsewhere and leave rooms available for us :)

“Most awful experience EVER”

We arrived on a Friday night after thinking we booked a suite for five people directly with the hotel as we had called the Hotel directly. We should have known it wasn't going to go well when we walked into the office and were ignored for a good ten minutes. Finally, when we attempted to check in, they would not honor our reservation.
We spoke to what we assumed to be hotel staff as no one ever identified themselves as a third party vendor such as expedia or travelocity when we booked. We also called the hotel two days prior to arrival to confirm our reservation and ensure all five of us would have beds. When we called to confirm this reservation and ask if there were hair dryers, they hung up on us.
When we arrived, they told us that they would not honor our reservation because we booked through a website such as expedia. We told them this was incorrect. They then proceeded to give us a room for two people - and don't forget they already had our money for five person suite.
After much arguing, with extremely rude management then told us we better apologize to him! Initially they would not give us another room that was available because they need to save it in case someone else called the hotel for a reservation (at 10pm?). We finally got another room from the owner but not after wasting much time talking to them. They never offered a refund if we had accepted the one bed or for anything for that matter. The rooms were stylish but cheap. The bathroom was reminiscent of a cheap college apartment. The only ventilation was a window that opened at your chest level and was next to other building and a walkway. So to avoid flashing people, you had to keep the window closed and fog up the bathroom. The airconditioning was at the front door so this led to a feeling uncomfortable, hot and humid, when trying to get ready for a night out.
I would never stay here again and felt like I was in some sort of third world country. All the staff should be fired.

Dear Guest, first let me apologize for the horrible experience that you articulated on your review. My name is Eddie Nunez, I am the General Manager of the Suites on South Beach, and I am in shock after reading your review and some of the comments you mentioned. I can assure you that is not the standard at our establishment as our Tripadvisor profile can attest and numerous other reviews can be shown as evidence. There seem to be some things that don't make sense, most glaring is that you booked one room for five people, which cannot be correct as we have a strict policy of only allowing four people as a maximum number of occupants. I would really appreciate it if you could contact me directly at sales@thekenthotel.com or 305-604-5068 extension 3010 so that I can speak to you and get more details on what occurred, how it occurred and what I can possibly do to make it up to you and earn your business and trust again. Please contact me at your earliest convenience as I'm very eager to correct our wrongs pertaining to your reservation. Thank you for your comments and criticisms and I hope that you contact me soon.

“One of the best !”

We booked this place for a great price while we were in the car, on the free South Beach Wifi and felt like we won the lotto.

The location is fantastic, one block from both the beach and the main party strip of South Beach. The property is great, slightly nestled away, and not overly large. The rooms themselves are awesome. Huge queen beds, beautifully set out, with a small kitchen/dining area near the back.

The room was spotless, and it was an extremely comfortable stay. If I had to pick a gripe, it would be in regards to parking, yet this is an issue all around Miami Beach. They offer a valet service like most hotels, yet across the road is a great parking garage that costs about $15 a day, and is only a few minutes walk away.

Will definitely be back here sooner rather than later !

“Terrific value one block from the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Before arriving at the hotel, I was a bit apprehensive -- I had booked several months ago and called to confirm my reservation a week before. I was told that for some reason when they tried to charge my credit card for the first night's stay, it didn't go through. No one had contacted me about that though and I had received an automated reservation confirmation when I first booked the hotel. Thankfully they didn't cancel my reservation, but I would have liked them to contact me when the transaction didn't go through instead of me finding out only when I confirmed the reservation.

Once I got there though, this hotel ended up being terrific!! For the price, I simply cannot imagine better value in Miami Beach. The room was beautiful, well-decorated and well-maintained and the hotel is in a perfect location in South Beach: only one block from the beach and a less than 10 minute walk to Lincoln Road. For LGBT travellers, it's also just a few minutes walk to the 12th Street gay beach and to the Palace Bar.

The room that I had was a queen room - by no means a suite (though it did have a fridge and a microwave), but absolutely perfect for what I needed and wanted. I plan on going back to South Beach next year and staying in this terrific hotel!

Dear guest thank you for your comments, I would like to inform you of our policy with regards to the room deposit. When a reservation is booked we apply the first night's room and tax, if for some reason the credit card is declined we do not cancel the reservation, we hold it until a few weeks prior to your arrival and attempt to charge the card again, should the card decline a second time we then will either send an email or call you personally to advise of the decline and request a new credit card for deposit - in other words we do not cancel a reservation without contacting the guest first to advise them of a possible cancellation. We hope to see you again!

“I really wanted to like this place...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

The location is brilliant. A block away from the beach is nothing at all. It's on a safe street and there's always lots of people there.

The room itself was good. Kinda cool looking. It even had a small kitchen area which I didn't know about, but was a pleasant surprise. Always nice to keep your drinks cool. There are several convenience stores on that block so no problem filling it either!

The beds were comfortable, the TV was nice and all good.

However...

I arrived at 3 pm and check in was at 4. The guy working didn't seem to check if the room was available, but offered to hold on to our bags in the meantime. The girl who worked the evenings was super cute, nice and helpful.

The Internet connection was rubbish. Kept getting disconnected all the time. Slow line. It shouldn't be like this in 2011. Despite it being free.

When we turned off the lights to go to bed, the front door went green! See the picture I've added. I don't know if this is something you can turn off, but I didn't find any switch for it. I like it dark so this messed up me falling asleep. The fridge made a lot of noise as well, which didn't help.

But the worst thing was that the a/c was located inches away from one of the beds. It didn't seem to be temperature operated (i.e. so it would only be active when the temperature in the room changed), so it would keep a steady stream of air blowing on the person on the closest bed. We had to use the timer function to shut it off during most of the night so the person in the closest bed wouldn't wake up with the flu. See the picture I've uploaded.

So, the location is brilliant. The cost was low, service was good, the look of the room was cool, but it just wasn't as practical as it was cool. Hence the 2* rating.

Dear Guest, please allow me to inform you of some future changes which might help with some of your complaints. We will be installing more powerful radio transmitters throughout the property this February to spruce up the internet connection, we found that some specific rooms have a harder time than others getting a signal, this could be attributed to the radios we currently have being a couple of years old, so we will be putting in new commercial transmitters instead. Regarding the green lights we had window films added to the front doors to suppress this issue, but very light sleepers like yourself still have trouble with the glow, we are currently working on blackouts to be added to the doors to further help with this issue. Unfortunately with the A/C's not much can be done, I would like to note that all our A/C's do have temperature controls so you can set the temperature to a specific setting so that the bed closest to the A/C is not too cold, in order for us to provide 2 Queen Beds in a regular Junior Suite instead of the typical 2 Full Size beds other hotels have we need to use all of the space in the room layout which leaves one of the beds very close to the A/C.
