“Privately Owned Condo = Perfect For Us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2006

I found a privately owned condo on another website, and booked it for a pre-cruise stay for myself and five friends for one night. Although it was a tad small for all of us, (we also had a ton of luggage) it would be ideal for a couple or small family with kid(s). But what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm, and the huge terrace overlooking the beach and pool is what made this place our home away from home. There are only four condos that have a private terrace, so if you're staying here, you will definitely want to have one that has a terrace. Chris, who owns the apartment, was so hospitable, and went out of her way to show us all a good time. Cold drinks and snacks were waiting for us, (prearranged) and there were plenty of towels and extra pillows and bedding for all of us. A murphy bed, a futon and a aerobed were provided for us. It took some rearranging of furnishings, but we all fit comfortably.

I highly recommend this privately owned condo, as I did not see any of the other condos. About a 10 minute drive from South Beach, I liked being far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet, but still close enough to the action. The beach in front of the condo is awesome. A rolling cooler, beach towels, chairs and even floating lounges and an umbrella were provided, so we spent the whole day out there. Because of our crazy flight schedule, and boarding for the cruise started at 1 pm, Chris arranged an early check-in and late check-out for us for a nominal fee. I can't tell you how comfortable Chris made us feel.

This is an older hotel/condo complex, compared with some of the surrounding hotels, but is an excellent value if you want the basics. People were saying how the halls are tore up, but it didn't bother us one bit. I wasn't trying to hang out in the hallways, I was too busy out on the terrace looking at my million dollar ocean view. I will definitely be back to Miami, and to the Casablanca - in Chris's condo of course!!

“Good location, terrible hotel”

This was an awful place to stay. Although right on the beach, the rooms were not modern or updated and I found the entire facility to be dirty (cigarette buts on the floor, scuff marks on wall, sand and dirt everywhere). I was there about 3 months after the last hurricane and found the lack of maintenance of this building could not be blamed on the hurricane. It was obvious it has not been properly maintained for several years. The locks on my room's door seemed flimsy at best. The sounds from the hallways and adjacent rooms were very loud. Furthermore, there was an electrical problem one night I was there and I was awoken several times by alarms going off in my room. I was unable to call down to the front desk due to the outage and when I ventured onto the stairs I found the stairwell not clearly marked, filthy and not well lit. I will say that when I complained, they did reimburse me for half of that one night. I liked that the rooms I stayed in had kitchnettes. Overall, I felt unsafe and I would never go back!

“Bring your own toilet paper!”

Basically reserved a certain room and checked in to one completely different. It did not provide the accomodations that were promised. Once I tried to resolve the matter with the hotel staff they stated there was nothing they could do. Asked to speak to the manager, and she was too "busy handling phone calls to discuss the matter." After about an hour of standing at the desk, she finally came out and basically was no help either.
Interestingly, during my one hour standing at the desk there was one guest who came down to request toilet paper because there had been none in his room for more than a day since checking in. Another guest came down to request linen for his room, because there was none on the beds. Yet another guest, checked in and within minutes returned to say his room was not acceptable and wanted to leave.
In the end, it all worked out, stayed elsewhere and saved the headaches.
Beware this place! You work hard for your money and spend time planning your vacations and do not want to be dissapointed by a hotel with poor service and facilities, no matter the cost.
Good luck!

“the worst experience of my life period”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2005

me and my girlfriends stayed there at casablanca condo/resort for my birthday weekend for memorial day. we booked our reservations three months in advance through a popular website and we were excited to be on our way to fabulous miami beach!! when we arrived at the hotel we were suprised with a requirement of 250.00 deposit for damages. I will make a long story short and just list all the horrible things that happened. The staff was okay not the friendliest a bit sarcastic, the room was supposed to be oceanview but that is only after you crooked your neck when you looked out of the window. Below the window was a pool of standing water on the roof of an adjoining building that had collected dirt and trash. the toilet seat had dried urine on the seat. the kitchen in the room appeared to be a fire hazard and the carpet was matted and dirty. we were given the option to have the toilet cleaned or changed rooms of course we changed rooms. we asked to see the manager and we were told that he was not there but we found him while roaming the offices. i asked for clean sheets after seeing urine and the manager said that i was antagonizing him. he refused clean sheets. before the urine was discovered i went down to find the ice machine and there was not one. this hotel probably has over 300 rooms and no ice machine. they gave me ice that was in a picnic style cooler behind the front desk. after we changed rooms we asked to have our luggage moved and the bell hop came through the hotel with a grocery cart. we finally got to the second room and the bed was uneven. the foot of the bed was higher than the head of the bed. we asked for another room. the third room once again had urine on the toilet. this was witnessed by the hotel staff again. we asked for our money back and the manager called the police on us and kicked us out of the hotel with no where to go on memorial weekend and without our money. luckily i had a friend who stayed at another hotel and we tried to make the best of the weekend. i am forever scarred by this exprerience and i wish i would have known about this website before booking this stay with the hotel. i will never ever ever stay at casablanca resort/condo-the worst experience of my life.

“Disgusted with the Casablanca”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2005

I just came back from Miami the Hurricane passed it by. There was little damage with major power outages.. "Warning" make sure the hotel you stay in has a backup power supply. As the one I stayed in did not Casablanca on Collins ave. The power was out for 2days. This was the only hotel who did not have power it sat in a row of hotels who all had some sort of backup supply. It was hot extremely humid and the smell was nothing nice... Mildew trash and dirty laundry can wreak havoc if left undone.

The hotel refused to comp people to another hotel.. Some guest actually called the local news just to get a room change. Unfortuanately for me I had a privately rented CONDO the hotel would not compensate anyone who rented from a private owner. The private owner was under the assumption that the fees paid via his condo association would cover all guest. NO DICE the owner did however pick up the tab. To me it does not matter the hotel is terribly maintained the staff is rude and unprofessional.. A word to the wise just stay away from this dump!

The hotel is disgusting just like a lot of the reviewers stated. Do not stay there trust me on this one you will only regret it if you do stay there. The hotel is run down hardly cleaned by staff the stynch of mildew and the buckets around the hotel to collect dripping water is enough to make you puke from the smell alone.

There was trash flowing from the trash chutes for the 4 days that I was there carts of laundry in the hallways for days. The place is dirty the pool was dirty. The walls are very shallow and you hear your neighbors the good bad and the ugly. I truly wished I had of taken the advice from the reviewers and looked for a different place to stay.
