Just got back from a two night stay at the Hilton Bentley and overall, it was an enjoyable stay.
Things got off to a somewhat rocky start when we arrived and our room was not ready. Admittedly, we were very early so not the hotel’s fault. However, twice we were promised that we would receive a call to notify/update us and we never did. Just before 4pm, we inquired again and our room was finally ready – and with great news. We had been upgraded to a two bedroom ocean front suite.
The room was fantastic but somewhat odd. I suspect a fairly recent renovation merged some of the rooms as our room number wasn’t exactly what they told us. The interior was huge, super clean and had fantastic views. However, it had a sense of being under-decorated or perhaps decorated in haste. For example the lighting was horrible and the few existing pictures seemed oddly placed. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, there were good bath products and again, the view/wrap-around terrace was awesome.
The hotel lobby is very tiny and I found it strange that there was no way to access the pool other than going outside. The pool/pool area was fairly small but well-kept. The beach is only steps away and a helpful staff was happy to get you setup with chairs, etc. The hotel staff in general were friendly and helpful – especially Kelvin at the front desk.
The Rodriquez restaurant was fine but nothing special. We found the evening hostess rather rude and the wait staff polite but pretty inexperienced. The breakfast buffet was standard.
What I really liked about this hotel was the location. Not only because it was on the beach, but because it was in a more quiet part of South Beach. Yet, the area came alive at night with some cool nearby restaurants. And if you needed more of a scene, the heart of South Beach was a short walk away. Also, walking to the very near southern point park was great. Fantastic sunset views and fun to watch the cruise ships depart.
However, the one thing I would be worried about before booking again was the construction. There was loud construction in the actual hotel (a guest elevator was even converted to a service elevator) and there was construction across the street, and at the property next door. While the hotel’s project may be done soon, the nearby ones look like they were just getting started. Surely no problem while at the beach, but it was annoying while poolside and even in the room.
Again, overall, it was a really nice stay. But, when a few kinks are ironed out (especially the construction), it will be a great destination.
