So before heading to theStandard, I literally read hundreds of reviews and was a little apprehensive. My conclusion is that this hotel is not for everyone, but it definitely is for us. My wife and I had not been away for 10 years (4 kids will do that to you). This hotel is really built around the idea of an intimate getaway. The rooms are minimalist, but the bed and linens are amazing, the design sentiment perfectly conveys the love shack vibe. Only downside to the room is that the shower floods the entire bathroom every time, so you have to mop it up or risk taking a spill.
The pool is absolutely killer, and that's where we spent most of our time. Just off the backside of the pool is a dock on Biscayne Bay, and you can jump off and swim around- tons of fun. No kids allowed at the hotel so the pool was peaceful.
The spa is also well done, and we tried the mud bath. A little weird and I would definitely recommend doing it on a hot day as it feels chilly when applied, but a fun experience.
Food was very good, and consistent. Miami beach is expensive, and everything comes with an 18% svc fee, so if you are looking for a bargain, look at a different destination.
There were a lot of complaints about the quality of the svc on TripAdvisor, but I have to say everyone there was lovely. Alex the concierge and Nicole at the front desk could not have been more helpful. Overall the staff is on the young side and maybe prone to being a little too relaxed, but that's miami.
You can walk over to Lincoln road, and all the way to the beach if you are motivated. It can be a little challenging to get a cab at the hotel at busy times (Sat night).
Overall, we would definitely stay again. Loved it.
