I made a reservation on the Hostelworld website on November 27, 2011 and the room was confirmed for The Tropics Hotel and Hostel yet when I showed up at midnight on January 4, 2012 there were no clean beds available. I flew to Miami from Chicago and did not have alternative plans since I thought a confirmation was sufficient for reserving a bed. Matthias Kohl (the general manager) made it clear that the staff who do the cleaning were not available. The only bed that was available had a dirty sheet along with long strands of human hair. After Matthias rudely told me that since I did not want to stay in the available dirty bed that I was not welcome to stay at The Tropics Hotel and Hostel. Matthias and Brian (the receptionist) refused to share the owner’s name or contact information with me. This is totally unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. I have stayed at hostels on 4 continents (North America, Asia, Africa and Europe) and never experienced this kind of unprofessional behavior or customer service. I do not wish to make any future bookings with Hostelworld.com due to this horrible experience and lack of support from their staff nor would I ever think about staying at the The Tropics Hotel and Hostel in Miami.
