The Sagamore has the potential to be truly a great vacation experience. Upon arrival friendly hotel staff are welcoming and carry bags to your room with efficency. The hotel lobby is modern with art displayed throughout. The front desk is small but again the staff are couteous. There is an old elevator next to the reception with an expired safety certificate, and after some heavy rain there was a leak in the elevator shaft but it still worked fine (albeit slowly and with an unreliable room card security system).
We stayed in a Sagamore suite which is roomy for two, fine for three but a little tight for four or more mainly due to the limited storage space (no place to hide suitcases or hooks to hang towels). The room had a kitchen that was a pleasant surprise, however, there are no plates or cutlery but you can walk down to the restaurant and they will provide these to you. A little more frustrating was that when we requested the extensive and expesnive alcohol/food be removed to create some space in the fridge (and avoid temptation) we were told there is a charge for removal. So we hid the goodies in the kitchen cupboards.
Internet access was good and available throughout the hotel and I was able to download movies from iTunes will no problem which cannot be said of many other places I have stayed. The Sagamore package which for $18 per day (per person) included Internet access, a Beach chair and breakfast was a good deal as our three kids ate free. The food quality at breakfast is generally good the only issue being that it is the same everyday and gets monotonus quickly.
The hotel pool is wonderfully warm and mostly quiet and backs on to the beach. There is a bar by the pool which serves decent food and is not too horrendously priced. The only complaint here is that the towel service is really inconsistent. Some days we literally had to ask for towels several times before they arrived and the pool attendant actually reprimanded my wife for putting her feet on a deck chair (due to its white color) despite there being no sign or someone around to even put a cover on the precious couch.
If there is a problem, however, the best thing to do is mention it and the hotel management seems to really bend over backwards to resolve issues.
Overall any of the minor things did nothing to dappen the experience too much and when roaming around the 'industrial sized' complexes of the Ritz and Lowes I felt we made the right choice at the Sagamore.
