“Cute Hotel Minus 'Scene'”

I had to attend a corporate event and was looking for a Miami hotel where I could escape the buttoned up environment of a lot of giant hotels that may run efficiently but have no personality.

The Claridge was perfect with a super-warm staff who seem to really be of Miami. The hotel and rooms are clean, personable and again, feel like Miami sans the "scene" South Beach has become famous for, making for a nice escape whether you're coming to Miami to party or not. A couple minutes walk from the and boardwalk across the street it's conveniently located but on a quiet block. I visited in January and most of the guests seemed to be European or S. American tourists, some traveling with children looking to enjoy the amazing weather and beautiful beach.

There's a giant jacuzzi on the main floor which is where my room was. I slept very well and wasn't disturbed but if you need absolute peace and quiet I'd recommend asking for a room on another floor.

Didn't have time to check out the restaurants but they seemed popular enough. I generally don't do repeat visits to hotels because I like to check out new places but I think I'd like to give the Claridge another try. I really enjoyed my stay there.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms less close to the jacuzzi unless you have kids then they might like having a pool with...

“nice hotel”

I stayed here in July 2010. It was very nice and quiet. The rooms were really spacious with there being 4 of us in the room. The beds werent very comfortable. The mattresses were wore out and had dips in the middle of them. The jacuzzi was really nice. It was right across the streeet from the beach. I was told by some other beach goers that that end of the beach was more for families. The party beach was closer to ocean dr. The bus service is very reliable and taxi service also runs all night. Everything is in reach but not in walking distance. The front desk told us we could walk but that was so not true. Miami is a happening town; things stay open all night. Im going back this July but will not be staying at the Claridge. Only because I want to be closer to Ocean Dr. which is in walking distance of restaurants and shopping.

“Below average hotel with above average charges.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We enjoyed the jacuzzi, although it was in a fairly open area and the hours were not very accomodating. The decor was fairly nice, but nothing that was extraordinary

Many of the items in the room (such as the window and the shower)did not function correctly. There was also a construction project across the street that was very noisy in the mornings and caused the entire area to become dusty. There were many hidden fees, such as resort fees, fees for extra people (they charge $40/day for 3rd and 4th person in a two-queen-bed room) and many others that caused the original price of the room to rise dramatically. During the night, the pipes were extremely loud and most members of the family were woken up on more than one occasion. when we asked the front desk about it, they were largely unhelpful and uncaring about the fact. The elevator and the stairs both smelled disgusting. There was originally also a deal in which two customers would get a free continental breakfast each morning for the duration of their stay, but the offer expired one day before we arrived, and there was no word about the expiration date on booking.com.

“The Nose Knows”

We stayed in the Claridge Hotel for 2 nights and another family member stayed in a different room at the same time. We both had an overwhelming smell of a type of ammonia permeating out of the furniture. The cleaning staff attended the room and after smelling the cleaning products used on the floor/bathroom, we found it was the furniture. Goodness knows where they had purchased it but it made it almost unbearable to be in the Hotel. Staff were reasonably friendly. Hotel was generally clean (except for the smell) and the restaurant nice if a little expensive. You receive a free drink on arrival in the restaurant. Wi Fi is dodgy and only available in the public areas. You do need a car or not mind walking to find places to eat after hours. Public transport is right outside the Hotel.

“Beware Cancellation Policy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Once you reserve the room online, any paperwork/emails come without any mention of their cancellation policy which is 4 p.m., 72 hours. So, you need to print that information before you reserve the room in case there is a chance you may decide to cancel the room later on. I called 72 hrs in advance (later found out I needed to call before 4 p.m. since I didn't have the policy in writing), but Julio could not find my room reservation. Hmmm... Then when I called back the next day, as he told me to, Cindy informed me of the policy and that I was too late - I would be penalized for the room cost if I cancelled. So, now I have to stay here or lose money on the trip. Nice racket set up here. Disappointed AND I haven't even stayed at the property yet!
