“As reviewed on here...Sub-par for Hilton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Well we looked at the reviews and knew exactly what to expect. And got it. As mentioned, the parking was a mess. A long jaunt from the lot to the hotel lobby. We ended up valet parking for the few extra bucks and ease of getting our car.

The good - hotel bar staff was friendly and served decent cocktails. We ate a few times at the bar (appetizers) and they were fine. Nice atmosphere. The room (paid for an upgrade) was ample and had a great view. We turned the lights out at night and enjoyed a wonderful view.

The bad - housekeeping was terrible. Knowing that I read poor reviews here, I tipped $5 the first overnight. Didn't really help. Our coffee was not replenished nor was the sugar or even stirrers. Oh well. The pool was and pool area was in not-so-great condition. It was OK but not what you'd expect. The hotel needs an overhaul. Kinds of shabby but since we had a car and were only there a few day before a cruise - it was not too much of a downer.

If you are looking to stay here for any time, find another hotel. There is one right across the street (Marriott) that we visited and it was first class. Probably more but worth it.

Room Tip: Pay for the view upgrade at $5 per nigjt - worth it!

We appreciate your sharing your experience. Centrally located in the heart of downtown Miami, we offer incomparable views of Biscayne Bay and the city skyline. It is disheartening to know that your guestroom was not as you had hoped it would be and we will share your comments with our housekeeping staff. Thank you again for providing your review. We hope you will reconsider staying with us again.

“Not up to normal Hilton Standard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

When we arrived for a one night stay, (we were catching a cruise ship the next morning) the one bell hop at the entrance did not greet us, or offer to help, or open a door. He seemed to be busy counting his tips.
The young man at the check in desk was very helpful but was new, as he sounded so scripted as if he had memorised all his lines.
The hotel is old and needs some updating in several areas.
We had a snack in the lounge as that's all that was available. It was almost uneatable, but we were hungry. The next day they compt our snack after explaning it all to the front desk people. The Hilton Honors lounge had a very nice breakfast available but it seemed that the superivisor was the only one who took the initiative to clean tables, so was hard to find a clean one.
The hotel is near the ski train that will take you right downtown for free. Watch out for the unfortuneates in our society. There is tansit police around but not everywhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room up top as the view is increadible.

“Amazing service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I have been here for one week on biz & after 30 years of corporate travel under my belt, I have to say that the service here has been outstanding. The staff here remembered my name, my preferences, and even my business associates. They were incredibly friendly & hospitable, and now I'm looking for excuses to come back here! I would like to especially acknowledge the warm, personal attention I received from Xinya at the front desk; and Angie, Andre, Candelaria & David in the lounge/restaurant who kept me well-fed, hydrated & restored during an incredibly busy week away from home. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

“Great service at the bar”

Our waitress, Angeleena, was exceptionally nice to us weary travelers, night of January 16, 2012. We wanted to get dessert to take to our room.

Our room could have been better, candy wrappers in the dresser drawers and a pair on men's underwear crumpled up by the picture window.

Little things can make a big difference. We are committed to providing exceptional service and our staff will be honored to know you that you were happy. However, it is regrettable that your room was not as it should be and our head of housekeeping will be made aware of the situation. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We would love to welcome you back again to the Hilton Miami Downtown.

“Great stay but bad parking system”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed with my boyfriend in December 2011 for 4 nights. The hotel is great and it is very well located in downtown, less than 5 minutes away by car from Bayside and from the entrance to the highway. Besides, it is 1 block away from on of the Miami free railway stations that takes you to different parts of Downtown.

I exchanged Hilton Honors points for my stay so I don't know if the prices are reasonable or not, I can't help with that.

These are the bad sides of the hotel:

1) WI-Fi is free in common areas but you get charged for it in the rooms.
2) No breakfast
3) Parking is 25 USD a day or 28 USD a day for valet parking, and here is the trick:

If you park without using the Valet parking you get charged 6 USD the first hour and then 2 USD per hour until you reach 25 USD...but guess what??? If you leave and then comeback you get charged again 6 USD the first hour and 2 USD per hour...so if you plan to park and then leave you should use Valet parking, you pay 28 USD and you can come in and out as many times as you want.

The thing is that is not only the 28 USD that you have to pay...you have to tip the guys at the door everytime you want your car...only for moving it 50 metres and for a service that you only use because if you plan to move the car more than once a day is cheaper that way. Of course if you don't tip you get a bad look from them, so I don't see the need of putting people through that. I don't see the need of tipping someone for a service that I DON'T WANT and that I am forced to use in order not to be charged with a astronomical parking bill.

My advice is: if you have HHonors points to redeem that allow you to have breakfast and Wi-fi complementary as I had, that's fine, use them there. I don't know how others hotels in the area are but don't go straight to this one, go and search for another ones keeping in mind that if you want Wi-Fi, breakfast and parking it could cost you the room rate + 50 USD or more.

I must say that I had a great time there, I can't complain of the service and how we were treated. But what I did find unacceptable is the parking system and how guests are "forced" to use Valet parking that involves expending money in tips everytime you want your car.

The Hilton Miami Downtown is convenient to Miami’s free Metromover, which can take you to so many great destinations and we are glad you were able to take advantage of that. We apologize if there was any misunderstanding regarding the parking fees. Valet parking is encouraged and allows for frequent leaving and returning where self-parking does not. Our parking and Internet fees are comparable to other hotels in the area, but we do want you to know that we offer a variety of affordable packages that feature complimentary breakfast as well as free parking. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and we hope to welcome you back again.
