I stayed with my boyfriend in December 2011 for 4 nights. The hotel is great and it is very well located in downtown, less than 5 minutes away by car from Bayside and from the entrance to the highway. Besides, it is 1 block away from on of the Miami free railway stations that takes you to different parts of Downtown.
I exchanged Hilton Honors points for my stay so I don't know if the prices are reasonable or not, I can't help with that.
These are the bad sides of the hotel:
1) WI-Fi is free in common areas but you get charged for it in the rooms.
2) No breakfast
3) Parking is 25 USD a day or 28 USD a day for valet parking, and here is the trick:
If you park without using the Valet parking you get charged 6 USD the first hour and then 2 USD per hour until you reach 25 USD...but guess what??? If you leave and then comeback you get charged again 6 USD the first hour and 2 USD per hour...so if you plan to park and then leave you should use Valet parking, you pay 28 USD and you can come in and out as many times as you want.
The thing is that is not only the 28 USD that you have to pay...you have to tip the guys at the door everytime you want your car...only for moving it 50 metres and for a service that you only use because if you plan to move the car more than once a day is cheaper that way. Of course if you don't tip you get a bad look from them, so I don't see the need of putting people through that. I don't see the need of tipping someone for a service that I DON'T WANT and that I am forced to use in order not to be charged with a astronomical parking bill.
My advice is: if you have HHonors points to redeem that allow you to have breakfast and Wi-fi complementary as I had, that's fine, use them there. I don't know how others hotels in the area are but don't go straight to this one, go and search for another ones keeping in mind that if you want Wi-Fi, breakfast and parking it could cost you the room rate + 50 USD or more.
I must say that I had a great time there, I can't complain of the service and how we were treated. But what I did find unacceptable is the parking system and how guests are "forced" to use Valet parking that involves expending money in tips everytime you want your car.

The Hilton Miami Downtown is convenient to Miami’s free Metromover, which can take you to so many great destinations and we are glad you were able to take advantage of that. We apologize if there was any misunderstanding regarding the parking fees. Valet parking is encouraged and allows for frequent leaving and returning where self-parking does not. Our parking and Internet fees are comparable to other hotels in the area, but we do want you to know that we offer a variety of affordable packages that feature complimentary breakfast as well as free parking. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and we hope to welcome you back again.
