“Excellent Hotel Right on the Beach!!”

Although this was not my first trip to Mexico Beach, FL, this was my first time staying at the El Govenor. Some friends and I stayed here over the New Year's Eve weekend. The hotel is nothing fancy but perfectly acceptable and very clean with lots of hot water!! We had a room in the tower with two double beds, would have preferred one with a king, and we had kitchenette complete with stove although we did not use it. All of the rooms have a balcony facing the ocean and we slept each night with the door ajar so we could hear the waves. The beds were comfortable and had really nice fluffy pillows. The elevator is EXTREMELY slow but our room was on the second floor so we just took the stairs. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Weekend special was $50 per night and regular rates are $75. The main reason we came to MB for the weekend is that they were having a Trolley for New Year's Eve that would take you to Pt. St. Joe and back and around for the night so that you didn't have to drive. The "trolley" turned out to be about a 10 passenger van with 30+ people waiting to board. This was very disappointing and with the amount of hype and advertising that was done, a much better job could and should have been done. I can't wait for my next trip. By the way, the weather was terriffic!! Sunny and 70 all weekend.

“White Christmas”

We just returned back to the FRENZY that is Atlanta. And left behind a small piece of paradise at Mexico Beach. We checked in on Friday 12/23 and stayed in the annex. The room reminded me of a piece of americana. It was clean and looked like a beach motel should. It was not the Ritz, but sometimes a Ritz is over rated. The architecture on the facade was charming, and the porch swings just added to the ambience. We basically had the beach to ourselves and felt like we were in a Corona commercial. The staff was friendly and helpful, the pool clean and heated. We hated to leave! All signs point to a return trip.I am happy to say that my expectations were exceded and for anyone wanting a getaway that does not destroy your bank account, this is it.

Room Tip: do the annex

“Clean, kid-friendly place”

We stayed at the El Governor in June with our grandchildren. We found the room very clean and the kids loved the balcony facing the ocean. The in-room kitchen was very convenient and had everything we needed. The beach was beautiful. The kids also enjoyed the pool, which is small, but a place to take a break from the beach. There are some drawbacks: the lobby is very small, elevator is very slow, public areas could be kept up better. But the children loved it. Mexico Beach is a small, safe beach town, very "old Florida." For a family vacation, it's a good location and El Governor is a good choice.

Room Tip: Our room had a full kitchen; some do not. If having a kitchen is important, be sure to ask about it...

“Very Pleased with Room and Mexico Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We visited Mexico Beach and stayed at the El Governor over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was a bit concerned because we were to late to get an Annex room after reading reviews. We ended up with 3rd floor King room.

The room was better than I expected. Room size was good, the balcony overlooking beach was great (every room has one). Room was very clean, bed was comfy, service at front desk and cleaning was helpful and pleasant.

But what I really liked (other than an unbeatable location directly on the beach) was a very good shower. Although fittings were a little older looking, everything worked well. In fact, it is hard to remember a better shower except at far more expensive places. Excellent water pressure and hot water available every time we tried it--even with a completely full motel.

The only downside was a small TV (19" maybe a bit larger). Decent channel selection. But we did not go to watch TV so it wasn't that big a deal. We went to enjoy the uncrowded beach, mild weather (70s during the day) and a relaxing weekend. And that is exactly what we got.

Parking can be crowded when motel is full, but we were able to find a spot.

All in all a very good beach motel, quiet and restful--just like Mexico Beach.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor is first of 4 floors of rooms. Only one outside elevator about midway along length of mote...

“Nice view of gulf and sunsets”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

It's an average hotel room, but right on the beach. Of course, the gulf view rooms have an excellent sunset view. The elevator is hot and maybe the slowest I've ever ridden. Need to reserve early if any kind of event or special occasion is going on.
