Everything was as advertised: nice, spacious room with full size fridge, microwave, stovetop. What I didn’t realize (due to my own ignorance) was that I was essentially renting a fairly nice efficiency apartment for three nights. So, for example, there’s a coffee maker but no coffee; you run out to buy your own. Same for Kleenex. The hotel warns in advance that maid service is only once a week, but you can get clean towels if you ask. The room was cleaner than many, everything worked fine, great water pressure in the shower (unusual in this Age of Algore), and the staff was courteous and efficient. The neighborhood was safe, adjacent to a Hilton, and Publix, Walgreens, and restaurants are minutes away. However, the negatives outweighed the positives for me. I travel Florida on business, and using my laptop and Internet is a big part of my job. The wireless Internet here is dreadful, the worst I’ve experienced. I’ve had dial-up that was faster. It was so bad I would have paid $10 just to connect to something that had some speed. The other major negative was the noise. The walls are very thin, and we had some guests that reminded me of a college dormitory. One lovely couple shouted at each other for much of the midnight hour my first night, and the second night engaged in a screaming match in the hallway at 2 AM, complete with slamming doors, etc. A guest just above me paced like a caged lion, and the heavy footfalls actually rattled the walls. Every slamming door (and there were many) seems to come right into your room. Granted, I am a light sleeper, and the hard bed and thin pillows didn’t help matters any. Bottom line: for a small family vacationing in Melbourne and wanting a clean place on the cheap, you could give it a try. Just pack supplies and bring some earplugs. For a business traveler—and especially if you need to use the Internet, I’d say look elsewhere. I will next time.
