“You can actually visit the Bates Motel in Long Key”

First of all our friends booked this dump over the internet and I have to give great credit to their web designer. I knew something was amiss when I noticed the mummified woman in the rocker --just kidding.

Seriously, we had booked a 2 bedroom suite for 3 days in the Keys. When we checked in we were given keys to the room. We were told the suite was right above the office--how convenient and right next to the highway. As we climbed the stairs we could not help but notice the disrepair the building was in and that we were right across the parking lot from a trash dump--another nice touch.
After entering the suite we notice the furnishings are circa 1970 along with a beat up old electric stove circa ???? We immediately called for our wives to check out the place and they told us in no uncertain terms "we are not staying here." We told the desk clerk that we wanted to cancel our reservations. After she went to the back to talk to someone she then told us we would lose the 1st nights deposit since they have a 30 day cancellation rule.
We got very lucky and were able to book a 2 bedroom suite at the Tranquility Bay Resort in
Marathon-- It was 20 miles further down, and the suite was $5.00 more per day, but the place was beautiful and first class all the way.
Our friends have notified the credit card company and are disputing the 1st nights charge
and I have photos to back up the dispute. I don't know the people who have written the "awesome reviews" but they are either relatives, friends, wts or Wal Mart people.
This place has no right calling itself a "resort" , a dumpy motel yes, a "resort" absolutely not.

Room Tip: Don;t believe everything you see on the websites. Read the bad reviews.

“Great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was a great surprise. The negative reviews are very misleading. All the rooms have beautiful views of the water. There is an amazing waterfront area with lounge chairs and tables and hammocks. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The pool area and jacuzzi are on a raised deck above the water. The rooms are nice if a bit basic but the place makes up for it. Great experience overall.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated room

“Great little getaway spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We booked the night before coming and got a fantastic rate for one weekend night. It wasn't a five-star resort, but you will not believe how much you get for the money. The views of Florida Bay and tremendous, the rooms cozy, and the hammocks make 24 hours down here the PERFECT rest & relaxation spot. The staff was a little harried at check in and not at their best; the following morning, it was all perfect. Clean rooms with great views. Not too far a drive to restaurants and tiki bars.

We would stay here again gladly.

“Loved this place!”

We stayed at the Lime Tree Bay resort for my husband's 30th birthday. He wanted to spend the weekend fishing, diving and relaxing...so we went to the Keys! This hotel was perfect for what we wanted. The rooms were nice, not exactly as nice as they seem in the pictures, but still nice. The property was amazing! We fished on the dock, snuggled in the hammocks, ate breakfast in our rocking chairs out front, and took advantage of the bbq with some local catch.

I would like to point out, if you have never been to the Keys, there are some things you should know. There are bugs. There is a lot of water around you at all times and anywhere you stay in the Keys will have bugs. There are not a lot of beaches, at least, not traditional beaches. Most of the shore line is rocky and has a lot of seaweed. After reading some reviews of this hotel on here, I thought I had to clarify these points. I go down to the Keys a lot and you are not getting South Beach or Fort Lauderdale. But that's what I love about being down there.

We are already planning our trip back next year for my 30th! I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel!

Room Tip: If you're coming down as a group, ask for one of the newer rooms which are 2 bed/2 bath. If not...

“Not Great, but not bad either.”

I spent 1 night at the Lime Tree Bay Resort. Having not been to the Keys before I was unsure of what to expect. As most places seem to be, this spot is literally like 5 feet from the side of the road. The people at check-in were very helpful and sweet. They offered to help us anyway/anyhow and seemed very sincere.

We stayed in room 20, which is a corner room on the first floor. It had 2 full beds with nice linens. The bathroom was comical! Toilet is absurdly close to the wall, you actually have to face the side should you want to sit down without your legs hitting the wall or the toilet paper holder. The shower also seems to be built for the shorter folks. At 5'6" I had only 1 inch between my head and the shower head. Water also was luke warm, and took a long time running to get anything other than frigid. Not very eco-friendly, but maybe it was a fluke?

Grounds are nice, but not as nice as photos make it appear. Everything seems kind of run-down, but not terrible.

My main issue was the noise. I sat on the dock to watch the sunset and all I could hear was trucks zooming down the road and other noise. This does seem to be part of the Keys though due to the narrow nature of the land.

There really isn't anything nearby for food. We drove down towards Marathon for dinner, which was about 30-40 miles round trip.

They did have breakfast the next morning which was coffee, juice and some packaged bagels and muffins. Nothing fancy, but something none the less.
