This motel is highly overrated. It's a dump. New Sun Gate is in need of deep cleaning and maintenance (chipped paint, stained tiles, dirty floors, marked walls). Rooms are not cleaned well every day -- stuff on the floor stays on the floor. I had to kill several cockroaches. The bed was so hard I could not sleep. The lack of comfort and cleanliness is not overcome by quaintness or kitsch. My room had a large Goodwill posture of Cary Grant -- that does not qualify as ambiance. The only positive: I returned home without bed bugs.

There negative review of the New Sungate written by "barrysmall" is way off the mark. I have stayed at the New Sungate when in Lake Worth for for the past four years while attending a Buddhist retreat in neighboring Palm Beach as have several others whom I know. Rooms do NOT rent by the hour. It is NOT a five star hotel, nor is the price anywhere near that of a high-end hotel. The price is the best in the area, the rooms are clean, they do NOT smell of smoke (I am a non-smoker) or mold (floors are tile rather than carpet), the beds are comfortable, the hotel is safe, there is a pool and a sauna, and breakfast is included. It is not fancy, rooms named after various stars is a funky concept, I stayed there three days ago, and plan to stay at the New Sungate again next time I am in Lake Worth.

I'm not sure how much Mike has to pay to get these reviews.....but this motel is disgusting. Checked out our "non-smoking" room and it smelled like an ash tray. A man and woman in the parking lot said rooms are rented by the hour. Mike said that he would give us another room....it smelled just as bad and there was an odor of mold as well. He then started yelling, "no refund..no refund." It is also in a very creepy part of Lake Worth. The room was pre-paid so there was no refund. We went 10 minutes further south and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Boynton...a few dollars more but very nice. What ever you do don't pay before you see (and smell) the room. Even with the free breakfast it's not worth it.

I stayed in the Elvis Presley room for my birthday and was so thrilled. Don't expect a slick, modern looking room, but something more comfortable and home-y, meticulously clean, and the most comfortable bed ever. Customer service was great, personable, attentive. Beautiful exterior from the mural to the colors to the landscaping. Really fun place to stay!
