Vacation dates 2/5/12-2/12/12 - Bigger is not always better. The sales people and the check-in people kept repeating that Orange Lake is the largest planned timeshare resort in the world. This place is so large that you need a car to get from one place to the other! I had to drive to the gym, to the barbeque grills and to the restaurants. We had a three bedroom unit in the East Village. The unit 86716 was nice and clean but the furniture is older and there are no flat screens in the unit. The unit did have plenty of windows and sat on a golf course (beautiful view). The only problem with the interior is that the beds were not comfortable around the edges. If you sat up on the edge of the bed for an extended period of time the back of your legs ached and you get a large indentation. I noticed the same thing on all the beds, but fortunately it was only around the edges. The beds were okay aside from that.
The other issue I had which turned into a real sore spot was that there is no convenient shuttle service in the East Village. I had my dad (67 yrs) on vacation with my cousins and my boyfriend. We can usually leave my dad on his owns to explore and get a meal, etc. We did not this time because he would have been stranded. Almost everything is too far to walk too. I have stayed at dozens of resorts over the years and never experienced such inconvenience. We could not take the car and go too far because we needed it to get around the resort. I cannot figure out why the shuttle stops are so far and few in the East Village!! This is something Orange Lake needs to rectify!!
I have been an owner at Westgate Resorts (Interval International) and Summerbay Resorts (RCI) 13 years. I would never trade my weeks to go to Orange Lake again. I prefer convenience and free activities when I can get it. You really felt that being a non-owner there was a serious disadvantage. You also have to pay for all of the activities. I called for a bicycle rental and found out they had none. But you can rent a bike from an outside contractor for $70 for three days (owners and non owners). The pontoon boats cost $110 an hour for owners and $120 for non owners. They nickel and dime you to death for everything then slap you in the face with inconvenient shuttle service.
If you love golf and are on owner here you will have a magnificent time. They only allow owners or friends of owners to stay in River island the nicest newest section of the resort where everything is convenient.
