“BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Vacation dates 2/5/12-2/12/12 - Bigger is not always better. The sales people and the check-in people kept repeating that Orange Lake is the largest planned timeshare resort in the world. This place is so large that you need a car to get from one place to the other! I had to drive to the gym, to the barbeque grills and to the restaurants. We had a three bedroom unit in the East Village. The unit 86716 was nice and clean but the furniture is older and there are no flat screens in the unit. The unit did have plenty of windows and sat on a golf course (beautiful view). The only problem with the interior is that the beds were not comfortable around the edges. If you sat up on the edge of the bed for an extended period of time the back of your legs ached and you get a large indentation. I noticed the same thing on all the beds, but fortunately it was only around the edges. The beds were okay aside from that.

The other issue I had which turned into a real sore spot was that there is no convenient shuttle service in the East Village. I had my dad (67 yrs) on vacation with my cousins and my boyfriend. We can usually leave my dad on his owns to explore and get a meal, etc. We did not this time because he would have been stranded. Almost everything is too far to walk too. I have stayed at dozens of resorts over the years and never experienced such inconvenience. We could not take the car and go too far because we needed it to get around the resort. I cannot figure out why the shuttle stops are so far and few in the East Village!! This is something Orange Lake needs to rectify!!

I have been an owner at Westgate Resorts (Interval International) and Summerbay Resorts (RCI) 13 years. I would never trade my weeks to go to Orange Lake again. I prefer convenience and free activities when I can get it. You really felt that being a non-owner there was a serious disadvantage. You also have to pay for all of the activities. I called for a bicycle rental and found out they had none. But you can rent a bike from an outside contractor for $70 for three days (owners and non owners). The pontoon boats cost $110 an hour for owners and $120 for non owners. They nickel and dime you to death for everything then slap you in the face with inconvenient shuttle service.

If you love golf and are on owner here you will have a magnificent time. They only allow owners or friends of owners to stay in River island the nicest newest section of the resort where everything is convenient.

Room Tip: Please for conveniece try to get into River Island or the West Village. That way you will be conven...

“Just got home....can't wait to go back!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I have to admit that my husband and I were very skeptical about staying at Orange Lake (we haven't been there in quite a few years) after reading all the negative reviews. However; I can't say enough about what a great experience we had.

We arrived on Sat around noon. Although check in is not until 4 we decided to try anyway since we were exhausted from our early morning flight. "Pablo" was eager to help us and was able to find a room available!!! After our brief check in....we were directed to the "time share counter" where YES they do try to offer you all kinds of discounts to attend the "1 hr presentation" We simply said "No Thanks..." and we NEVER were asked again. I am not sure what all the complaints are on here about being bothered or threatened to have a "fee" charged for not going. Just say no.....

The resort is FULL of things to do. We went with our 3 children (ages 19,15,11). Although we didn't take full advantage of many of the amenities other than the pools... there are LOTS of activities, water sports, restaurants, arcades, bars,....etc. And if you like to golf (we don't)....this is a DREAM place I would image. Our villa was right on the golf course.

It is a short drive to both Disney and Universal and about an hour from Busch Gardens. It is very centrally located. I actually became sick while I was there and right down the street on 192 is a Walgreens with a "walk in clinic". I was in and out in no time!!!

The room was extremely clean. There are many wildlife animals that come right up to your patio...
Just an awesome time!!! We can't wait to return!!!!

One thing I will say.....one night we did smell the "smell" from Animal Kingdom but it wasn't as horrific as people have made it sound on here.

Also note...the resort is cash free...so you can just swipe your room key to make purchases and then pay them upon checking out.

Room Tip: Our villa was located in the West Village (2194)

Hi there and welcome home from your vacation! We hope that you’re feeling better. It is great to see that you and your family had a wonderful time on your getaway. What a treat to be able to check in early and start the fun as soon as possible. It seems like you were able to take advantage of many of the possible amenity options that we offer to our guests. Your children were sure to enjoy our seven pools including River Island’s famous lazy river, action-packed watersports, arcades, shows and more! Don’t worry, you weren’t dreaming up how perfect we are for the ultimate family vacation. With so many options many of our guests choose to never leave the resort. However, when you did it was great that everything you desired was in such close proximity to us. We hope that our “official wildlife send-off committee” gave the well-wishes you deserved upon your departure. Thank you for your review and we hope to see you and your family back again!

“Great Time, Nice Place”

Just spent a week at the beginning of February Enjoyed every day. Our 2 bedroom/2 bath villa in the West Village was in excellent condition-very well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped and we got a decent amount of soap for the dish washer and washing machine. There was a washer and dryer in the kitchen. Beds were very comfortable and the second bedroom had two DOUBLE beds (and plenty of space). Overall a great experience.

Had a great stay. 2 bedroom condo was very nice. Had everything you need to make it your home for a week. Even had a teflon frying pan which is rare in a condo. 4 golf courses. 3 pool complexes 1 with a giant lazy river. Publix right outside the gate. There are multi restaurants on site they specials each night. They also have their own pizza delivery. Disney is a quick 10 to 15 ride just hop on the toll road it's only $1 no traffic that way

“Utterly depressing rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

people found this review helpful

We are curently staying in a one-bedroom in the clubhouse. Our stay is Feb 4 - 11, 2012. This is the most depressing room I've ever stayed in. It's completely interior with no window to outside. The only window is to an interior atrium area so you cannot even see outside from the room.
The furniture is old and dirty. I counldn't stand the thought of sitting on the sofa so we covered it with a blanket we found in the closet. The carpets are so shabby and dirty that I would not go barefoot in the room. I did go to guest relations and tell them that I am very disappointed with the room and its shabby condition. It is really not better than an extreme budget motel. Guest relations offered to have someone come in and shampoo the sofa but other than that they said there is nothing they can do.
Also, the bedroom in the 1-bedroom units is right beside the door to the hallway. You can hear everyone walking, talking and shutting their doors in the hallway. It is also quite easy to hear your neighbors in the rooms nearby. Bring earplugs or you'll never get any sleep!
We had been looking forward to this vacation for a long time. Our trip has been good - everything aside from this 'resort'. I recommend that you stay away from this "resort" if you want something better than a budget hotel. It is marketed as a resort but it does not live up to the marketing hype.
Also, when you check in there is a lot of pressure to attend a timeshare sales presentation. We did not attend but had to go through 10 mins of high pressure at the check in area before we could actually get on with our vacation. They gave us a coupon for $20 to use at the resort as a 'thank you', but we found out the coupon is useless. It's only good if you buy a full week's worth of activities within the resort, then you can get $20 off of that price. Very misleading!

Room Tip: Don't get a room here!

Good afternoon from Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort. We appreciate you taking the time to review our resort, and regret that you encountered a less than desirable stay. It is imperative to us that every guest has a wonderful and fun filled experience while on property with us. To find out more information regarding your stay, we have attempted to contact you privately through TripAdvisor. With so many different lodging styles to choose from, we are pleased to offer our guests a wide range of accommodation options. Unfortunately, our one-bedroom clubhouse floor plan was not accommodating to what you were looking for in your vacation. We would love the opportunity to show you more floor plans that might be more suitable to your vacation needs. All of our units are continuously updated in order to provide you the best accommodations possible. Our informational preview is meant to inform our guests about the best way to maximize their travel experiences through vacation ownership as well as to inform you about the endless amenities at your fingertips. However, we understand that vacation ownership is not for everyone, and appreciate your right to enjoy your time away to relax in your own way. Our Play Pass offers our guests the option to enjoy our amazing resort amenities such a miniature golf and the world’s largest inflatable waterslide, The HIPPO, in one convenient and affordable pass. Many of our guests who take advantage of this value-added option never even feel the need to leave the resort. We appreciate you taking the time to give us your opinion on your stay. We look forward to hearing back from you and hope we have another chance to host you.
