“Great Escape from Cold, Northern Winters”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed in #2476, a 2 BR, 2 BA villa in West Village. Although we are Holiday Inn Club members, our home base is at a different location. This was our first visit to Orange Lake, and we loved the well-maintained, spacious grounds and the privacy of a roomy villa. Our reservation was for 2 weeks, but I could have stayed longer. West Village is perfect for retirees wanting to escape cold, northern winters. The villas are ground level and parking for the car is just a few steps from the front door.
The villa seemed to be older but appeared to be recently refurbished. Maintenance requests were handled promptly. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full-size range, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. There are cabinets for food storage above the laundry area. Paper products are provided, along with coffee for the first morning. Sliding glass doors led to the rear patio from both the living room and the master bedroom. The bathrooms are small, but all other rooms are large.
A heated pool was a short walk away. The pool and hot tub enclosure held an ample supply of lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas. The pool towels are small but adequate. There are 2 more pools near the West Village Clubhouse about a 15-minute walk from the villa. If you want an even larger pool complex, you can take the shuttle to the beautiful River Island. North Village and East Village have pools, also. This resort is huge.
We wasted the first few days at this wonderful resort trying to find fault with the place. Why? We attended a “member update” on the morning after our arrival. It was not a good experience. We chose not to accept their proposal and left the meeting with bitter feelings. I recommend that the sales presentation be scheduled for later in the visit, after you have an opportunity to enjoy some of what the resort has to offer.

Room Tip: West Village has villas at ground level.

Hello there! It’s great to hear from members of the Holiday Inn Club Vacations family. Although our resort is not your home base, we are thrilled that you found it to be the perfect “home away from home!” We’re happy you took the time to escape the cold with us here in Orlando. It’s nice to get away sometimes. Even during Florida’s “winter” all of our pools are kept at 80 degrees, so we’re glad you were able to enjoy them. Thank you for pointing out the well-equipped kitchens that are in all of our villas. We do our best to provide our guests with everything they need both before and during their stay for their perfect family vacation experience. There truly is something for everyone here. We apologize that you didn’t enjoy your member update. This update meeting is meant to give our current Holiday Inn Club Vacation members not only a refresher in the benefits of their investment, but to also work with you to get the most benfit out of your vacations. Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We look forward to seeing you on your next escape.

“Only go for golf or stay away - very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Just got back from a week's stay.Very disappointed with the concept. Too large requiring driving to get anywhere. 4 sections divided by a highway. We were in a 2 bedroom unit in the western section. A pool there but everything else cost money. Even the fishing pole. We drove to the river area and they wanted $9 per person per day for a tube rental. These have always been free at other places. We went through the sales pitch to get 10% off our food. The 60 minute presentation took over 2 hrs with 4 sales people. They don't like to hear 'no'. We did not get the coupons as promised either. The ones we got were useless. This place is for golfers only with 4 golf courses - 2 18's and 2 9's. No sidewalks except for the one main road. No walking trails. Claim to have 9 restaurants but in reality there are 2 with 1 sports bar and the rest are where you can get a premade sandwich or order a pizza. Would not stay again. The quality of the kitchen cabinets was poor with the laminate pulling away.

Greetings from Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort! Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We appreciate the opportunity to address some of your concerns. In order to find out some additional details about your stay, we have messaged you privately through TripAdvisor. Meanwhile, we would like to address a few of your points made in the review. While we do charge for certain activities, like mini-golf or water sports, we have many activities available throughout the resort that are free of charge. These include our seven pools as you mentioned, as well as nature walks, trivia, sunset celebrations and our very popular poolside bingo; just to name a few. We also offer our Play Pass so you can enjoy access to all the activities, including tubes for our 1,200 foot lazy river and the bungee trampoline, for one low cost. We do have four unique and excellent golf courses, but our resort is a great place for any guest whether or not they like to golf. We even have the McCord Golf Academy on site for guests who may want to try golf for the first time, or just improve their swing. We pride ourselves on being able to provide our guests with a wealth of unique activity to fit every families unique vacations needs. We apologize if your resort tour ran a bit long. We appreciate your feedback. Reviews like yours give us the opportunity to improve this experience for our future guests who would like to learn about the benefits of ownership. We look forward to hearing from you.

“Disappointed with room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We reserved a one-bedroom unit in the River Island area, which is the newest area of the resort. The room was very small with a bad odor - suite hotels are much larger and nicer than this unit. The "balcony" was a screened area with two chairs (it's all that would fit on the balcony) overlooking the parking lot. The furniture was uncomfortable with stains and scratches - my sons college furniture was in better condition. We left the unit shortly after we arrived to go to the pool bar and had not complained about the odor at this point. When we returned a half-hour later there was someone from housekeeping in the room who said the people in the unit before us had complained of a bad odor. We went to the reservation desk to inquire and were told there was a note on the room that said bad odor reported.....and they put us in the unit anyway! I have to say the kind gentleman at the reservation desk, Pablo, found us another unit which was a two-bedroom and we were happy with the resolution. The bed pillows are the most uncomfortable pillows I have every slept on. I ended up folding a blanket from one of the beds to use as a pillow. I ranked service as average because of the room issue on check-in and the service at the River Island Grilling Co was very slow.

Room Tip: River Island one bedroom units are lock-out units and very small.

Hello there! Thank you choosing to stay with us here at Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort. We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to address some of your concerns. In order to find out more about the details of you visit we’ve attempted to contact you privately through TripAdvisor. While we wait for you response we’ll address some of your concerns here. Though most guests rave about how spacious our villas are, you may have found more comfort in one of our two and, three - or four-bedroom villas. Our two-bedroom villas can comfortably fit a family of eight, which many families find to be more than enough. All accommodations are thoroughly cleaned and serviced before our guests arrive, though it is possible we may have missed something. We apologize if this may have been the case. As you found out, we were happy assist and provide new accommodations once you informed us of the issue; thanks for giving us the opportunity to do so. It is of the utmost importance to us that our guests enjoy a memorable and fun-filled family vacation. It is because of guests like you that we are able to resolve any needs that you might have during your stay We are currently in the process of renovating our villas. With almost 2,500 villas across the resort, we appreciate your recognition of our continued efforts to improve our guests’ vacation experience. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to hearing from you.

“Nice, Big Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Purpose of our stay was in town for Disney World Half-Marathon, this was our 2nd stay at this Resort. The Resort is huge, you would need a car to go from one end to the other end. Our unit was on Southern Magnolia Court, the only Con there was it was too close to US 192, we can hear all the vehicular traffic noise, but it was close to the Entrance/Exit to Resort. Our Unit was Big and Clean!!!

The other Negative was the step after Check-In, after receiving my welcome packet and keys to unit, I was escorted to the other side of the Lobby of the Sales Counselor Desk, there, the Sales Rep, kept on pushing me to attend the Sales Orientation, I kept on telling him, I was NOT interested, but he kept on and on and on, we just flew overnight/cross-country from Los Angeles and wanted to Rest upon our arrival. The Rep finally had me sign a blue paper I would promise to attend the 60mins presentation, I figured I can call on Sunday to cancel the Monday appointment, well the # I called, no one answered on Sunday morning, when I got home and looked at my AmEx statement, I got hit with the $30 for not attending, this was disclosed to me. So Don't Sign the blue paper, unless you are will to pay the $30 penalty for Not Showing!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to review us. We hope you did well on your marathon! It’s great you were able to rest here after your event. With our clean, spacious villas and seven pools across the resort, there is plenty of space to lay back, be yourself and just relax. Thank you for posting some of your vacation photos. It is nice to see that a few members of our on-property “welcome committee” came to visit you! While we believe vacation ownership is the best way to get the most out of your vacation, we understand it may not be for everyone. Our resort preview is one of the best and most convenient ways we can explain both the benefits of Holiday Inn Club Vacations ownership, and get a chance to show our guests all there is to see and do at the resort. All guests are free to attend if they wish. We apologize if our staff may have seemed a bit too excited. Thanks again for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you again, maybe at the next marathon!

“No Time Share for Us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

It is a beautiful property, I'll give it that. We had found a rate of $73 per night and my husband is a Platinum member. They greated us and thanked us for our status and gave us a free bottle of wine. Now for the sales pitch, 20,000 points if we went to the one and a half hour presentation. We said no thanks, we were there for only 2 nights. The room was near the River run and a beautiful one bedroom suite complete with washer and dryer. Now it was a bit confusing finding it as it is a very large complex. We unpacked and then got a telephone call that we were only there for one night and had to move the next night. My husband told them we weren't moving and nothing happened the next morning. On our last morning our doorbell was rung by the maid at 8:30 asking to do the room. Now on vacations we like to relax not leave at the crack of dawn. We were up but not ready to be answering doors. We loved the River Run which was just behind us. If we were into golfing it would have been a great place.
I don't think we'll be back but that has more to do with not wanting to go back to Orlando again.

Hello there and thanks for taking the time to review our resort. We appreciate hearing from IHG’s Priority Club member, and are impressed with your Platinum status. We’re glad you enjoyed our spacious one-bedroom villa. Thanks for pointing out that our villas provide many more of the comforts of home than your average hotel room, like the washer and dryer you mentioned as well as a full kitchen with all the necessities. It’s great to see you found this to be so convenient. With 1,450 acres of family fun spread across four villages the resort can seem a bit expansive at times, but we’re glad you found your room alright. We’d like to apologize if our cleaning staff may have been a little too eager to clean on your last day with us. We understand how important your relaxation is on your vacation and would never want to interrupt that. As you noticed our resort is a great spot for those who love golf. Four courses, 54 holes and 17,000+ yards of scenic, public play. We also have the Rick McCord Golf Academy, which is a great way to learn (and love) the sport. If you do decide to come back to Orlando be sure to check it out. Have a wonderful day and we hope to see you again!
