“Great location with great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Pros: The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The 2 BR/2 BR was large with a living room/dining room area and separate kitchen with fridge, stove, microware, dishwasher and small appliances with dishes, flatware, pans, etc. 42" flat screen TVs in all rooms.
The concierge is very knowledgeable about the area attractions and restaurants and made excellent recommendations. Great water views from some rooms.
The resort is on the water with its own charter boats available from its dock.

Cons: This is a converted Hampton Inn but has been upgraded with resort amenities.

Room Tip: Ask if a room with water view is available

“Just barely satisfactory”

We are Bluegreen owners. This was our first reservation. This is a Hampton Inn pretending to be a resort.

Pros: Very nice staff. Impeccable landscaping team. Perfect grounds and pool maintenance. Rooms are large. First floor baths are huge. Laundry basket with detergent for a load provided, no charge. Washer dryer on premises. Restaurant with limited menu. Pretty views.

Cons: Sigh. I don't think I have an unusually high demand for cleanliness but I am convinced that housekeeping and interior grounds maintenance staff are blind. Wallpaper peeling in bathroom. Tub anti-skid bottom was just ridiculous - as if the staff don't know it isn't supposed to be dark gray. Towels are refreshed daily. Trash taken if you bag it up. Kitchen facilities in studio were silly - fridge, microwave, basket of dishes, toaster, coffee pot crammed in a 4 ft space. 24" table to eat on. Coffee stocked ONCE during 7 day stay with coffee packs for a 4 cup pot left to use in our 12 cup coffee maker. Promised full housekeeping service on day 4 - never happened. Old broom left for us to sweep. Broom found sitting on toilet plunger. Had to wash dishes in bathroom sink (!!!). Claims 2 queen beds, but they are just full sized. 32" TV. Nowhere to sit but on the bed or in cafe chairs at mini table. This could really be so much better.

Frankly, I live at a standard of living higher than a Hampton Inn and while this is a great vacation location, resort is not a word I would use to describe it. When I think about what my timeshare cost, plus 2 years of $529/yr fees, plus $129 resort fee because we actually used it this year, I am torn between being sick and just plain angry.

Come to this hotel knowing it is in a great place, run by nice people. But don't kid yourself into believing this is a resort.

Room Tip: Back near the pool!

“Absolutely recommended as stopover or for a longer stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

In October 2011 we've spent 2 nights at The Hammocks Hotel Marathon FL during our roundtrip through Florida. This stay had its main reason in a whole day visit of the Dolphin Research Center at Grassy Key. We chose the Hammocks after having carefully read a lot of - mainly positive - reviews about this location. And we shouldn't have to regret it at all!

Service
The staff at the desk was very kind and helpful. They even made some nice jokes when we arrived at check-in with 5 large suitcases and several bags for just a two night stay :-). The concierge was really worth his job. Besides the regular offers concerning day and night activities in the area he gave us really good advices of must go restaurants nearby. We never had such fine and well prepared hogfish before than in the rustic charm of Keys Fisheries Restaurant at Marathon!

Rooms
I've booked a 2-bedroom 'villa' with balcony for 4 persons with a German travel agency. What we got was a huge 2-bedroom/2-bathroom apartment with a complete kitchen (big fridge/freezer, oven, microwave and even dishwasher!) and a living/dining room, way more what we expected. The rooms were very clean, had alot of space for all of us although the closets might have been too small for all our luggage.

Dining
Breakfast isn't available at the Hammocks but that didn't bother us. We normally take our American breakfast outside (I suggest "Wooden Spoon" at 70th Street). We loved the Tiki bar at the pool side where they serve some basic menu. We sat there every evening and got some drinks while the sun was going down. Awesome! One evening we took part in the pasta event which was really a 'show cooking' with Paul the cook. Very nice place, and very nice show, Paul!

The location has a nice pool, some BBQs in the garden area, and you may rent a boat or jet ski directly off the hotel, too.
Overall we wouldn't hesitate and return to The Hammocks at Marathon if being at the Keys. We think this location is slightly underrated, probably because of the timeshare background or the accomodation costs.

An important hint at last: Marathon residents seem to know the location rather as 'Bluegreens' than 'Hammocks'. The hotel is situated on the gulf side of Hwy No 1 just one mile before you reach the 7-mile-bridge. And you have to look for a 'Bluegreen' sign on your right.

“Best Keys Vacation Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

This was the best Florida Keys Vacation ever and it was all because of the staff at the Hammocks. Everyone was extremely friendly. But it was Josey D.in activities that really made our stay. She was helpfull with all sorts of local info and got my husband to actually play "coconut bowling". The 1 bedroom unit was huge and we were lucky to get views of water on 2 sides. Pool area great. And the rental price for kayaks was low and it was per trip or day. We can't wait to go back next year! Thanks again to the entire staff and especially Josey!

Room Tip: You're in the keys......you don't want to stay in the room

“The Hammocks”

Nice vacation destination. Room was satisfactory but the place was 'dated'. Many items are located nearby. Numerous restaurants that serve great food. Pool is nice, but hours are limited. Same deal with the hot tob. Key West is only an hour away. 4 night stay for us- first day was gorgeous - we relaxed at the pool and went out for a turkey reuben. Next day was overcast and we went to Key West.Next 2 days rained and we shopped at many interesting shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Get a room that has a kitchenette!
