“Overpriced”

The Islander is resort accommodation and you do pay resort prices.

We had an ocean view lanai which was a very small unit with 2 smallish queen beds and what seemed like a fairly distant ocean view. Luckily we stayed during the off season so it was relatively quiet.

Our unit had a full kitchen which was very compact and had a dishwasher that was not very effective. The wifi internet and television worked well.

Parking is next to the unit.

Breakfast was ok, it is included in the rate and consists of cereals, pastries, bread and waffles for toasting. Coffee was available throughout the day.

There is a laundry on site which proved useful and reception were happy to provide change for the washers and dryers.

Unless you are a lover of resorts I would avoid the Islander as the ameneties do not justify the price.

We only stayed at the Islander for one night.. Facilities are very good and in an excellent location and outlook.. Bar is lovely with very friendly staff. Only negative feedback is the decor was very dated and could do with a upgrade

“Perfect spot”

What a beautiful place. So quiet..we felt funny speaking in anything but hushed tones here. The beach area, the swaying palms, the beautiful sea.. The rooms are all ground level with screened porches (no bugs to speak of but perhaps that changes with the seasons). We stayed in the building closest to the water and had our own private porch. The bar restaurant area is beautiful. The pools (there are two) are modern and sleek. Continental breakfast served each morning is more than enough. If you need fancy the Cheeca Lodge nearby may be more your speed. This was elegant but simple. We walked across the street one evening to the restaurant there to watch the sunset and listen to the one man band with a magic show thrown in. Theater of the Sea is just down the road where you can see a dolphin show, etc. Went to Robbies down the road to have lunch and feed the tarpon at the dock..hopefully they fix the fence beneath the dock..a pelican stuck his head thru while I was hanging over with a fish in my hand and he almost took my hand off..had a nice group of cuts on my hand, who knew the bite radius of a pelican was so large. Silly tourist carelessness. (can I blame the rum?). We would certainly go back. Quick 2.5 hour drive from Ft. Lauderdale (take the turnpike, not 95). Once we got to Key Largo we took the turnoff for the Card Sound Bridge. Next time we will be sure to plan to stop at Alabama Jacks..a bar in the most improbable place along that resolute stretch of road. What a great trip.

Room Tip: Choose one of the front buildings but only if you are an early riser..quite sunny in the morning.

“Most peaceful romantic holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Loved our stay at the Islander. I've stayed there 3 times with my partner, he's been there at least 5 times and we keep going back. Very peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. If you want to go somewhere simple, not super luxurious but very nice, lovely people then this is it. If you cross the road theres a great bar for the night time, and just down the road there's a 5 star restaurant, very fancy. Next door there's an upscale resort, but this was more our speed.

“Tranquil, relaxing slice of "Old Florida"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My wife & I stayed at the Islander for the last 2 days/nights of our Florida Winter Sojourn, and it was like a suprisingly terrific dessert after a good meal. We were not looking to stay at a Mega-Resort, what we wanted was a clean, non-pretentious yet fun piece of tropical paradise. The Islander delivers! Built in the 1950's, looks it, and that is what made it wonderful! It just had a nostalgic charm of a Florida before Disney-fication, but with all the modern ammenities. They have installed an enormous amount of brick pavers for walking, the grounds are well tended. I judge a hotel on the quality of sleep you get from the beds, and it was the best of our trip. We will be back....many times!!! GS from snowy Michigan

Room Tip: Ask the front desk, they are knowlegable and want to help
