“Just what we wer looking for”

Admidedly,we were restricted to a place that would accept our small dog, but Sands of Islamorada was a most pleasant surprise. We love smaller, clean and loveingly kept up older places and Sands fits the bill plus it is right on the water with a dock, pool and hot tub right outside your door ( only nine units). Add super friendly, helpful managers and a great restaurant within walking distance ( Lazy Days - one of the best meals on out trip), super walking across the street for you and your pup (crossing US 1 is not fun) and you have a special place to stay.

What a great place! Very casual and comfortable. The hosts Kathy and Bob are absolutely great. When we arrived Kathy showed us our room and then gave us a tour of the property, nice welcoming touch. We were in room 11 which had 2 queen beds separated from a sitting area and dining area. The unit had a full size refrigerator and a two burner stove. The unit was clean and well equipped with dishes, cutlery etc. The furnture matched and was current and comfortable. Housekeeping is done daily. The room also had a coffee maker and a blow dryer. Pool towels were also provided daily. The resort is on a narrow property that is oceanfront and has a small beach area and a long boat dock. At the end of the dock there are chairs, a fish cleaning station and a ladder to the water. There are fresh water hoses available along the dock. There is a pool, hot tub and a gas grill and a charcoal bbq available too. The air conditioning in our unit was by thermostat and worked well. The grounds are nicely groomed and lots of shading palms. There are two parrots and the hosts own lovely dogs to greet you. Pets are welcome here.

Kathy and Bob went out of their way to make us feel at home. They helped us launch the boat the first time out with navigation tips to and from the dock. They also were quick to help with docking upon our return. Bob had lots of great fishing and sightseeing advice. He also has a bait trap. He had a bait casting net for your use if you can throw one; if not, Bob will catch some bait for you! This resort is in a great location for fishing. The reef and Alligator lighthouse are only 4 miles out. The lighthouse is visible from the dock. Gas for your boat is available at Bud N Marys which is very close by. The back country is also easy to get to.

Unrelated to the resort - we found the laundromat in Islamorada at a few minutes to six, the last load is six and the attendant on duty would not let us start and was very rude about it. ''We are closed'' he bellowed. Apparently his closing time is prior to six even though the posted closing time of 7:30. We travelled 8 miles north to the town of Coral Shore and the laundromat had the same hours but the attendant there welcomed us to start even though we were there well after six! He was pleasant and helpful and worth the extra travel. Its located at MM90. If you need to do laundry - go to the Laudromat in Coral Shores.

Overall - its a quaint place that is not your ''sterile'' Holiday Inn style with guests you would not normally talk with. Sands of Islamorada is very family-type place where you end up chatting with other guests over a drink in the evening about the fish that got away. We will stay here again on our next trip. We also met return guests. Thanks Kathy and Bob. Give Mary and Odie a scratch for us.

Room Tip: Our room was the first unit and had a little bit of road noise. We live in the country so it may ha...

We stayed here for 1 night in November of 2010. There were 4 of us so we took one of the cottages. It had 2 bedrooms with a living room and a kitchen. It wasn't a Hilton resort but it certainly suited all of us. We wouldn't have minded staying longer if we had more time. We thought the area and pool looked very clean. The owners were kind and friendly to us. The view over the water was very pretty and the property seemed close to lots of shops.

Room Tip: Forgot the cottage number but i believe there were 2 cottages in the one building and we had the one...
