“Great ocean side resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We spent 5 nights at this resort, which I guess is much longer than almost any other guest/couple do here. Actually all is already said by the first 3 reviewers' comments, so I will not repeat all the pros and cons but only point out what really will last in our memory for long and shape our future decision for another possible stay at this hotel.
Yes, the entire lot is really breathtakingly beautiful in its landscaping, hard to beat by competitors, especially taking into account that the property is relatively narrow and long and has only a pretty short private ocean shore/beach. Also the house makes an attractive impression, both by design as by craftsmanship. But in the end the major positive factor for this hotel is the really outstanding quality of the staff - we personally have experienced the attentive care of Brian very positively. We stayed 3 nights in a ground floor room and 2 nights in an upstairs suite (complimentary upgrade!).
But then, I am sorry, but that is the reason we cannot but only give 4 out of 5 points in the rating : However nice the house's exterior and the room's interior is designed and set up, we were very troubled by the really poor quality of the beds a such and the mattresses, also taking into account the pricing of the rooms. Especially my sweetheart had really troubles sleeping a full night through. And if you have not cooled down in your love you would be nastingly reminded to keep cool in order not to inform the neighbouring room/s of your nightly acitivities. Also the floors are of a quality that when staying in the lower floor rooms you would hear the guests in the room above yours walking about, especially at night (the rooms are not carpeted, which does make sense in a beach hotel however, but adds to the noise problem). Also the double doors connecting two rooms side by side were far from noise cancelling and we could understand more than a single word that was spoken in the other room.
Apart from these problems we were really extremely pleased with our stay and would still recommend a stay at this hotel, especially in a room on the first floor. We hope they completely replace all beds soon and then I would still call this hotel perfect!

Room Tip: Take a room on the first floor, not on the ground floor

“An Oasis”

We spent three nights at Ocean house, two in the Key Lime room and one in the Laffy Taffy suite. It was more than we could have hoped for.

The property is gorgeous. From the salt water pool, private gazebos, and man made beach, you have everything you need. On top of that, the fabulous staff takes excellent care of you, providing a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries each morning, keeping you stocked with fresh coffee and anything else you may want. They also provide paddleboards/kayaks and snorkle gearl on the beach for you to take out whenever wish.

While we were there, we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves...and enjoyed every second of it!

The rooms were OK. This may have reduced my rating, except for the fact that the property and service more than make up for it. Both rooms had excellent showers and were nice spaces, but those beds were atrocious....lumpy and with a slight mold smell. In the Laffy Taffy suite, the bed would squeak loudly every time we moved. We never had a good sleep. In addition, the Key Lime room is below what we can only guess is a room with two double beds and the floors aren't very thick. On our second night, guests checked in above us very late and continued to walk about their unit until 2am. Impossible to sleep to.

I do, however, want to point out that the showers were fantastic. Great water pressure and heat.

My recommendation: Get a room on the top floor, spend your time outdoors, and recognize that you're paying for a whole lot more than a bed....perhaps they'll have replaced the beds by the time you arrive.

Room Tip: Get a top floor unit so you don't have to listen to neighbors above you.

“Shame about the beds”

We spent one night at the Ocean House, and our first impression of the property was very positive. One of the front desk staff give us a tour of the grounds, which feel like a private estate.
The view of the ocean from our second story suite across the garden and pool could not have been better. the room we stayed in was not four or five star quality, but nonetheless nicely assembled. The mattresses however were quite uncomfortable.
The town of Islamorada doesn't really have much going for it. We chose to stop here on our way from Key West to the Gulf Coast side of Florida. The accommodations overall were OK for one night, but certainly not worth $300.
As much as we enjoyed our visit Key West, next time we'll drive straight through, and not stop for the night at either Islamorada or Marathon.

“Best Wedding Weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The Ocean House is by far the best place to have a wedding in the Florida Keys. Not only is this a first class hotel with gorgeous views, it also has a very nice and accommodating team of professionals to help with every need. Heidi, Lauren, and Brian are a first class act! Everything was beautiful and handled very professionally from start to finish for our wedding. From the moment we arrived till it was time to leave, they could not do enough for us and made sure our weekend was fantastic!

Our guests were greeted with refreshing cocktails and shown around the property and to their rooms by a member of the resort. Each morning breakfast was served in the suites or at the pool (as requested). The fresh pasties were to-die-for and were paired with a nice fruit display every morning. The fact that this boutique resort has 8 rooms, which accommodate between 16-20 people, make this the perfect private resort to have a Keys wedding. The rooms are newly remodeled and the landscaping surrounding the property is breathtaking. The property is extremely clean (both the grounds and the rooms) and is very well maintained. The property offers a nice variety of amenities including the cabanas, lounge areas, tiki hut, gardens, infinity pool, hot tub, fire pit, beach, etc.

The property lends itself to a phenomenal view for a beach ceremony and reception. The resort is quiet and romantic and it was almost like having our wedding on our own private island. Our ceremony was set up at the tip of the beach facing the ocean and the reception was in the sand. The atmosphere was great for our luau - from the pig roast to the polynesian and fire dancers - the night could not have been better. We had a nice and relaxing atmosphere for guests to lounge on the pool deck and under the tiki hut throughout the night and the fire pit lends itself to a great social area. It was PERFECT!

The team was extremely easy to work with and coordinate all of the details for the wedding. This is a HIGHLY recommended venue. Everyone at the Ocean House made our wedding weekend amazing – the guests loved the hotel and the rooms, and especially had so much fun at the wedding. We’d recommend the venue to everyone and anyone!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are FANTASTIC!

“a quiet wonderful surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Ocean House is a small, quiet, lovely surprise. You are seconds away from the honky tonk of Highway one, and it is as quiet and sequestered as if you were in a much more remote place. The rooms are clean and comfortable- nor particularly inspired design- wise, but fine. The garden is absolutely magnificent. The whole layout of the outdoor space works beautifully, and the small # of rooms make you feel like you have your own private getaway. We ordered lunch 2 days poolside and it came from the Spanish Garden restaurant - perfect soup and salads. We followed that up with a Paella dinner at Spanish Garden which was absolutely delightful. I highly recommend Ocean House for a family gathering - we were a group of 5 and the layout and ambience were just right for all of us.
