My husband and I traveled to Key West for the first time and chose the Alligator and the Mermaid based on the TripAdvisor reviews. We were celebrating our "baby moon"- our last getaway before our daughter arrives later this spring. From the first encounter on the phone with Gerri, we knew this would be a memorable trip.
I'm sure there are lots of nice places to stay in Key West, but it was the small touches that really made the difference for us. We arrived well before the 2pm check-in and Gerri was there to greet us, give us directions to lunch spots and let us know that our room would be ready early. Throughout the week, she and the rest of the staff booked us dinner reservations (with EXCELLENT recommendations- we never had a bad meal our entire stay!), excursions, a fabulous drag cabaret show and even a couples massage in the garden.
The other guests were extremely friendly and the set up of the backyard made breakfast chats and afternoon wine hours even more conducive to mingling. Like I said, the small touches made it fantastic- umbrellas at the front door the day it rained, recommendations for the best trolley service, fresh baked muffins each morning.
Our room, the Royal Ponsietta, was small but comfortable. The private porch with loungers and a screening of palms made it seem much larger and we spent a good chunk of time just relaxing with the island breezes.
The dogs really are the stars of this place- Havanna and Caya are the sweetest flat-coat retrievers and we really enjoyed having them around. We played with them in the front yard every morning and were sad to leave them behind.
As mentioned before, the location is perfect- even being 6 months pregnant, we walked everywhere. I've noticed a few of the reviews mention that this B&B is pretty pricey, but as with most things in life- you get what you pay for. We would wholeheartedly recommend and hope to visit again soon!
