“Lots of great qualities but still comes up short.”

My husband, two sons and I recently stayed at this property. We usually prefer the condo/timeshare properties because of the space. This property is definitely a plus in that respect. The kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are all spacious. The added laundry and huge balcony is definitely a plus when travelling with kids. The property being situated next to the airport should not be taken lightly. We knew about the aiport before we arrived. A little noise doesn't typically bother us and the kids like seeing planes take off. BUT, the noise is really loud. Not little propeller planes but fairly large jets taking off over your room starting at 6:00 A.M. You get used to it after a while but smell of jet fuel is just awful. We couldn't sit on the balcony or by the pool on several days because the wind was blowing the jet fuel smell over us constantly.

The rooms are also starting to show some wear and housekeeping could definitely be better. Thick dust on the toliet paper holders, chunks of tile missing, dishwasher with missing parts, dirty couch, fridge that was covered in sticky stuff, a microwave that needed to be wiped down, a shower with the slowest drain ever. Plus, the most unfriendly front desk staff. We checked in the evening and the person at the front desk was very rude. Sighed and was clearly put out when I said we were checking in. I'm not sure what the problem was but I felt like I was being rude for checking in.

The location was a plus. It is definitely out of old town which we prefered with the kids. We loved visiting old town but liked that we could escape in the evenings. It is obviously easier to park and get around in new town. There are also several grocery stores down the street which made getting food easier. There is also a great pizza place close by (Mr. Z's) which delivers pizza to the property. Benihanna's is also next door.

Overall, I just didn't think the amount added up to quality. I would probably try another place next time I stayed.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as far away from the airport side as possible.

“The resort makes you feel like your a resident of Key West”

Let me start by saying this is a time share property and that I normally prefer Hotel/Resorts. These 2 bedroom condos all have large balconies and ocean views. The balconics have wonderful tables to have breakfast or lunch at while enjoying the ocean view. They also have 2 rocking chairs which I sat in for hours while I smoked a cigar and watched the boats go by.
The rooms are very spacious. The master bedroom has a gorgous private bathroom with dual sinks, a shower and seprate jacuzzi tub. The guest bedroom was decent size and had a guest bathroom with a tub/shower across the hall. The kitchen area was beautiful with granite countertops and you could also see the ocean from the kitchen area which was nice. They have a washer and dryer in your condo but i found it to be very noisy so I would not use it at night. The furniture was comfortable and stylish. The grounds were beautifully kept and we loved the infinity pool. There was also a outdoor hot tub but unfortunately they were repairing that during our stay. They have a food shack which makes cocktails and serves grilled food. The food and drinks were good and reasonably priced. You could bring your own drinks and food if you like to the pool but no glass bottles were allowed. The staff was friendly and helpful which is what you expect from a Hyatt property. The concierge arranged for any reservations we needed. Plus by staying here you had full access to the Hyatt Hotel located just off Duval street. Meals, drinks etc could all be charged back to your room at Hyatt Windward Pointe. The only negative my wife found was that it was not on the beach. Smathers beach is the largest beach in Key West and its about a mile walk down the Blvd. We usually drove down since there was never problem finding parking but the walk was nice to do during the sunset hours. Hope you enjoy your trip to the Keys whereever you stay.

Room Tip: The resort is only 3 stories high. I think the higher the room the better the view. We were on the 2...

“Hyatt Windward Pointe”

What a nice property, they had our room ready early and we had a two bedroom unit, while unpacking we noticed a wet spot on the floor in the second bedroom. Turns out it was the sewer clean out had a crack in the cap and leaked sewage onto the carpet, we called the front desk and they said they would put us in another room for a day then move us again the next day, we decided we would stay in the room until the next day until we got a room we could stay in for our whole week. They sent people up right away to clean up and the next day they put us in a third floor room over looking the ocean and it was great. Mark at the front desk was so helpful. If you have never stayed in a Hyatt they have the most comfortable beds and pillows that I have ever slept on, plus very high end furnishings and appliances. The room was huge as well as the balcony and the telescope was a nice touch to look at stars and cruise ships out on the water. House keeping came daily to bring new pool and bathroom towls which was nice but not needed for us, they even straightened our beds and took the trash and recycle out every day. We had an ant problem in the kitchen, they were coming in a little crack in the crown molding in the ceiling and down the wall and onto the counter to get into anything that was left out like juice or coke cans and glasses.
The pool area was fantastic and Abbey Road had good food and drinks and you did'nt have to take money to the pool you could just charge it to the room. The Hyatt put on some promotional stuff at the pool that is nice because you learn about things you can do on the island and they give away excursions as door prizes and wine. We won a bike tour and a bottle of wine, if you don't win anything you can book your excursions with the people that run them right then at a discount or you can do the time share tour and get discounted rates for what ever they have on there list of things to do or places to eat. This is the first Time Share of Diamond Resorts that I've stayed at that they did'nt pressure you to take there tour and I have to say that was nice. The grounds are very well maintained but the leaf blower noise was bad when at the pool or on your deck, you could even hear it a little bit in the room and we were on the third floor. Free Coffee in the morning at the lobby when you run out of your one day supply they give you in the room.
If you plan to spend a lot of time down on Duval Street then I would suggest renting a car or if you are into biking then rent some bikes from Eaton bikes and they will deliver them right to you and pick them up after you leave. I tryed to rent a car for a week on line and found it to be about $700 for the week, so I went to Priceline and bid my price and got a car from Hertz for $167 for the week. Parking can be bad but we found that down by the sister property there was lots of street parking where you pay at a pay station on the street and put the receipt in your dash and if you decide to go park somewhere else and there is time left you just use the same receipt, I was told but did'nt try, that the receipt is also good in parking meter area's (Better ask again to be sure though). The shuttle the Hyatt runs is five dollars per person each way and kind of a pain to use, it's just a van and gets full fast so you have to reserve your time to be sure you get a ride and it does'nt run late at night either.
Best Happy Hours we have come across the many times we come here is Alonzo's, Turtle Krawl's and a new place called the Commodore Boat House, they all have there appetizers half off and drink specials. Alonzo's is our favorite, Turtle Krawl's is fun on Friday and Monday for the Turtle races, they race three turtle's and if your number 1,2 or 3 that you get from ordering food and drinks wins then you pick a key, if your key opens the trunk then you win the money inside, so if nobody wins for a few weeks it keeps going higher. Schooner Wharf is also a fun place with live music and good food.

“Hyatt Windward Pointe Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

The property was very nice with a beautiful 2-bedroom suite. A few things were a bit annoying. First, it's nice being near the airport (literally in walking distance) but being that close is VERY noisy. Second, we had asked about shuttle service and was told there was a shuttle that could take us to the Hyatt sister property down in the pier area/Duval street. What they neglected to mention was the $5 per person fee each way, so it cost our party of five $50 for a round-trip ride and calling/getting shuttle was a pain so we went ahead with car after a day of this. We assumed shuttle to a sister property would be complimentary. Vendors come on MOndays to sell their tours and services and this was useful to hear about them all and decide what to do for the week, as well as chance to win free tours in raffle. The little sandwich shop on property doesn't have much in the way of food options, but makes great pina coladas, mudslides, margaritas, etc. and 2 for 1 from 3-6pm. Overall, a nice place to stay but transportation should be planned ahead -- you will definitely want a car.

“Second time here, but probably our last...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Some things are a real challenge with any property. Others are deceptively easy and simple. Other reviewers have eloquently told about the property itself. The rooms are huge, with 2BR suites, 2 baths, full kitchen, and a gorgeous balcony overlooking the ocean.

The property faces a few main challenges:

1. The property sits essentially on the runway for Key West airport, and the noise from the planes taking off is deafening. Of course, we already knew that, and were willing to deal with the planes in exchange for having a great room that was double the size, for less money, than it was to stay on the busy side of the island.

2. The rooms and property were at one point really nice, but are starting to get pretty tired. Things falling off like the toilet paper holders, a toilet that only flushes if you hold it down, a kitchen that's aging which isn't being helped when you arrive and the burners aren't connected on the electric stove. It just really needs a little bit of a facelift.

3. The worst part of the property, and probably the reason I won't be back, is the landscaping. Not the lack of it, by the way, but the care of it. We came to Key West to relax. We want some time to sit on the balcony, sip mimosas in the morning, and put the cares of the real world behind us. Instead, the landscaping crew has already begun its operation with gas powered blowers, hedge clippers, weed wackers that simply DO NOT STOP ALL DAY!!!! Read my lips Hyatt, when I'm by the pool relaxing, the 1 inch unevenness in the height of the hedge wasn't bothering me!!!! I literally was forced to leave the pool each day because I was angered to the point of a visceral response hearing the engines start up. I'm by no means a violent person, but if I thought I could take him, I would have grabbed the [--] blower out of this guys hands, and thrown it in the ocean.

Forget about the gorgeous balcony, because you physically can't even hear yourself thing. I know I'm not the only reviewer to mention this.

Tip for Hyatt - Buy a broom, a set of manual hedge clippers, and maybe, just maybe, a cordless electric silent blower and you'll retain far more guests.

Thanks to Andre and Lisa at the front desk for being among the best people we've encountered!!
