We just returned from a 10 day stay in Key West. We stayed at Budget Key West. It definately exceeded my expectations for the price we paid (about 99/night). Outside of the room is a sitting area with 2 chairs, a table, and an ashtray if you need it. This was a good area to store bikes if you rented them/brought them, let your towels dry, or just hang out. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean. We had a queen sized bed, side table with lamp, 6 drawer dresser, wardrobe with hangars, TV with cable channels (most important for visitors: The Weather Channel, NOAA channel, and the Keys Channel), bathroom with large shower and never ending hot water (shower only-no bath), celiling fan, carpet in room, and kitchenette area. The kitchenette area was a big plus. There was a coffee maker, microwave, and larger sized mini-fridge, dishes and utencils. However bring your own can-opener, bottle opener, and wine opener. Every dining place is a little pricey. We saved money on breakfast and lunch, and used our money on nice dinners and activities. Some of the best dining is off Duval (like Mangia Mangia, Michaels, Cafe Sole). We brought breakfast cereal, oatmeal, yougurt etc since we could use the microwave and refridgerate items. They provide coffee, but you could always bring your own. For lunch we brought deli meats, sandwich stuff, breads, and chips etc. There is a little freezer part in the mini-fridge which was a good place for cold packs. So if you are going to the beach often, use coolers or lunch bags to bring food/snacks/drinks/plenty of water. There is an ice machine outside. Key West is open container...so bring some decent sized cups and stock up on your favorite beverages and fix your drinks before you go out. The hotel is in walking distance from pretty much anything. It was 4/5 blocks from Duval. We were able to walk to Mallory Square, to the boat for the Fury Adventure trip, the ferry boat for Dry Tortugas, Ft. Zach (a longer walk-probably more like 50 min to the water-great snorkeling right off the beach to see colorful fish), resturants and bars, shopping...Bring comfortable shoes. Parking is only on the street. Otherwise the parking garage about a block away can be costly. It's 14 bucks a day. There's no weekly rate, only monthly. So, we parked the car and pretty much left it there. We took the bus everywhere if we didn't want to walk. It's 8 bucks for a 7 day unlimited ride pass. You can find the bus route online or get a map from one of the buses. The locals on the bus were very friendly and helpful. Bicycles and scooters also seemed to be good ways to get around. The staff was helpful and friendly. They helped us book day trips, give recommendations, and print out the weather forcast for example. We had our laptop, but we could not access internet in our room. There are several internet cafes nearby. There is a rooftop area to lounge outside. There's no pool at Budget, but right across the street at Albury Court (which is Budget's sister property) there's a small pool area. Dante's Pool Bar is about a block away and has a fantastic pool with a waterfall; however, I think I paid like 10+ bucks for a frozen drink. They don't check to see who buys food/drinks though. Budget didn't have a breakfast, but Albury provides coffee/juice/muffins etc...and we got some breakfast over there one day because it was just laid out by the patio area near the pool. All in all, it was a great stay. When we return to Key West we will definately stay there again.
