“Crowne Plaza La Concha in Key West”

After a horrible experience in Key Largo at the Bayside Inn..........we checked into the Crowne Plaza La Concha. What a welcoming staff and charming lobby. How clean everything was. We did experience a couple of issues during our stay, but the management and staff were efficient and helpful. They indeed wanted our stay to be wonderful and perfect, and did everything they could to fix our issues in a way to make us happy. Even George, who was our waiter in the restaurant, saw that my eggs were overcooked, and took it upon himself to bring me some perfect eggs without me saying a word. Good work George!!! This hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Key West. After the car was parked, we could walk to everything within a few blocks. Besides a clean comfy room, this hotel has a bar at the top where you can observe the sunsets famous in Key West. This hotel has made a fan out of me!!! I cannot say enough good things about it.

Room Tip: The hotel is renovating some of their rooms, so if this is important to you ask the hotel for one of...

“safe and clean feeling, perfect location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The staff is very professional, and they are trying very hard to make guests feel welcome.
The manager personally assists with all issues, which speeds things up.
The property is in perfect location. There is simply nothing better in town. The lobby feels rich and colonia plantationl decor perfectly fits the mood of resort. The rooms are small, but they seems to be renovated just recently. Luxurious bathrooms with very expensive marble sets the mood right. No bathtub, though, just shower.
The restaurant on premises is so-so, nothing special. The Starbucks downstairs is very strange, at least compare to NY standards, it is simply not the same in terms of items they have, and even coffee. But this is not the hotel's fault. The only issue with hotel - is their dirty windows. Other then that - everything was perfect. The room's decor is very stylish - they keep within plantation theme and the room feels rich.
I guess, as soon as they finish renovation, they will double their prices, right now it is relatively inexpensive in comparison. The roof top bar was closed our entire stay. The pool was open, and it looked very clean. The overall rating - very good hotel. The best choice if you want to be in the middle of it all and don't mind simple and efficient rooms.

Room Tip: Spend as much money as you ca afford to get their biggest room/

“A rough start that the staff turned around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

This was our 3rd hotel in 4 days. We went from Orlando, to Miami, to Key West. I am a Gold Member with the Priority Rewards Club. I have stayed at many Crowne Plaza locations before for work and pleasure.

Check in is at 4pm, but we arrived a bit early (1:00pm), and it was a Sunday. I did not expect for our rooms to be ready. Parking at this location is valet only ($20/day) and includes unlimited in and out privileges. I did not catch the name of the valet's, but every valet we interacted with were excellent. hat's off to the entire valet staff. They were by far the most competent employees at this property. These gentlemen have a future in Hotel Management if the opportunities ever come up. The valet tagged our bags, and stored them in a locked room so we could walk around Duval Street (This hotel is close to everything!)

We went to the front desk, just to check the room status, and were told that the rooms were not ready, but Marta took our cell phone number and said that she would call us when it was ready. We went out, walked around for a few hours, went to several shops, down to the Southernmost Point, and the Southernmost Beach. We got back to the hotel around 3:30pm, and went to the desk again. We were then told that the housekeeping team was about to start cleaning our room. In the mean time, a lot of other people were checking in (lucky them). At about 3:50, our valet noticed that we were still sitting in the lobby, not looking too happy. He then went to the front desk on our behalf, and a room suddenly became available. He helped us with our bags, and we were on our way up to the room.

The room is rather small, but that is to be expected in such a historic hotel (Tennessee Williams wrote "A Streetcar Named Desire" in this building). If you want a bigger room, get a suite. There was a couch, a mini fridge (they usually charge you for this, I believe it is $25/night, however we were not charged because we did not request one. The TV was a flat screen, plenty of channels.

The bed was very comfortable, as other travelers have stated, it is a standard Crowne Plaza bed.

The bathroom was also small, but again, this is to be expected.

While my wife and I were in the room, someone tried to access it via a key card. The key card opened the door, however we had the latch across, so they could only open it an inch. At first, we thought it was housekeeping, we were wrong. It was another family on vacation. They were given our room number and key as well. Talk about awkward. We were just thankful that we were there. Who knows what would have happened if an unscrupulous person was given a key when we were not there.

I promptly called to the front desk and informed them that someone else just accessed our room with the key card. Marta at the front desk apologized and stated it would not happen again (I sure hope not)!

My wife and I went out for the night, Capt. Tony's, Paradise Pizza, and plenty of shops, and Mallory Square.

When we came back, we went up to the room, and our key cards did not work. When they deactivated the other family's keys to our room, they deactivated ours as well. So back down to the lobby we went. Chad at the front desk (appeared to be a manager) took care of the situation, and made up for it in the form of breakfast for 2 at their restaurant. From here on out, our stay was excellent.

Note: If you have any type of phobia or fear of elevators, do not stay here. The elevators are small due to the buildings age, and they are very shaky. I found them to be fun, but others might panic.

**For the ladies, there is no full length mirror in the room at all, in fact, the only mirror is the one over the sink in the bathroom, and no bathtub. It was a stand up shower only.**

The breakfast was wonderful.

Thank you to Chad and the entire valet staff for making the stay as good as possible.

For the location, and the fact that it is a national chain, I would likely stay here again.
There are many smaller/neater hotels in the area that I would likely consider.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 6th floor. Very quiet, good views.

“Decent hotel, poor service”

I had always wanted to stay at La Concha Hotel in Key West, Florida and I finally had the opportunity to get a reasonable price for a room so I jump at it. The lobby is spectacular, beautiful old pictures of Hemingway all around it. We got there around 2:00 PM and of course we couldn't check in because check in is at 4:00 PM, the girls at the lobby weren't very friendly but they helped us to store our suitcase and promised to call us when the room was ready so we could check in. To my disappointment after 4:45 Pm we never heard from anyone so we just walked back and took a chance it would be ready, which it was. Location is great but as another poster said, the pool is tiny with a very small bar so do not stay here if you like lounging by the pool in a resort atmosphere.
I ordered breakfast from room service, which was a terrible mistake. It was extremely pricey $53.00 for me and my husband and the quality was really bad. Pancakes were hard and super small, sausage was old and dried out, juice and eggs were good though. It would have been better if I went to Denny's a few blocks up the street and would have been half the price. The only good thing about the Hotel was the location and the rooms are decent. I will never stay there again as there are better options for same price :(

“Poor service, dirty, old rooms.”

This was a disaster. I'm a platinum ambassador and never been treated worse at a property. Let me get some of the positives. Location is great to walk down duval st and to walk back in any condition. The beds are comfortable like any crowne has. Thats it. Checking in- rooms were not available at check in time. checked bags and went up to the pool area. It is very small, no music, small bar area, with no bar tender. The hotel itself tries to clean, but fails. It is key west though, a hotel in party alley. The desk clerk seemed inept, turned out to be. When we came back and got our rooms, me and my friend both platinum. He got a jr suite and i got a regular room. okay... not a big deal. It was a tad windy out and the awnings were right outside our window. the noise it created was ridiculous. It took me forever to find out thats what it was. It sounded like someone was pounding on the side of the room, not sleepable. So, i went to the front desk to see about a different room and you would think i asked for her first born. She became extremely defensive, rude, and unaccommodating. After i was pretty much told i was lying about the room, because i just wanted a suite like my friend. That was about all i could take from her, so i asked for the manager. He wasnt on the property so she called him, and started ranting about me!? He tried to do everything he could to compensate for here after it was all said and done. I just had him refund my room and i went to the waldorf where the service would never be like this. there is good reason its at the bottom on trip advisor. ihg group members stay at a different chain in key west.

Room Tip: get upgraded if you can. the rooms with window with awnings outside of them will get really loud in...
