“awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

Joco was not there for the 9:30 breakfast or the evening social hour that was listed on the website. Noone entered our room for the entire stay , needless to say no cleaning
no clean towels. The front porch was lovely but very dirty. Other quests were on the
porch fighting at 1:30 in the morning..A quest woke up with bites all over her body.
Lots of nicer places for less money and better atmospher.

“Very Enjoyable Stay - Joco was very good and helped make the stay pleasant,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

My wife and I wanted to visit Key West on our anniversay which is October 23. This October 2010 we finally did that. We wanted to stay at a B&B but most were booked up and the only one we could find was THE NASSAU HOUSE. We read other reviews posted here that said the place was in receivershipand being sold and run by a management company. We also read all the horror stories about how bad it had become. We decided to book and go and take our chances. WE WERE DELIGHTED. The management company has hired a young man - Joco - to run the place and he has done a splendid job. The breakfasts were delightful and Joco was very nice and full of information, The rooms are kept spotless by a cleaning staff that he has hired and they do a great job. Our room had all the amenities of a B&B and we enjoyed our stay and would go there again. We hope that the new owners keep Joco because he is very good.

“A Bit Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

I researched many Bed and Breakfast establishments before deciding to stay at Nassau House. The main reason I selected Nassau House is the location (on a quiet street, but within walking distance to Duval Street), the price (it seemed reasonable for July which is during the off season), and I was becoming overwhelmed with all of the choices in Key West!
When I called Nassau House the manager was very helpful and friendly. He also promptly replied to subsequent emails prior to our arrival. Upon checking in he showed us around the property, supplied us with several coupons to local bars and restaurants, and offered to make any reservations we may need (which was done promptly and efficiently). We found our room to be clean, although obviously a little old. We were disappointed to find that the air conditioner (window unit, but that is to be expected in Key West) had not been turned on prior to our arrival, which would have made our room much more comfortable. The website stated that lemonade and refreshments were served in the late afternoon, which would have been nice in the heat of July, however when I searched for this they were nowhere to be found. We saw a sign in front of the house indicating that it is for sale. It is obvious that the owners are not spending any money on the house, since the towels were gray and one was so worn it actually ripped when I was toweling off. One day, our room was not even tended to. We left early in the morning for a snorkeling trip and returned after lunch. We found our beds unmade, wet towels still hanging, and no fresh towels supplied. I found the manager who did supply us with fresh towels. Another drawback was the time breakfast was served (8:30 - 10:30), which is not beneficial if you are an early riser or have an early morning reservation (which we did with our snorkeling trip). However, in the afternoon prior to our departure (which was before 8:30 a.m.) the manager did make us a plate of muffins, bagels, etc. to have the next morning.
Overall, I could not even say that you get what you pay for as I found this B&B to be overpriced given the service we received compared to other B&Bs in which we have stayed. I could not recommend this B&B.

“Very Disappointed..not the place it used to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2010

We have stayed at Nassau House on a number of ocassions and have absolutely loved it. The Family who used to own it...Bo, Letty and Mel were very welcoming and breakfast used to be great..Lettys homemade breads, monkey cake, and Key Lime Pie. We had booked to stay three nights from 5th April, but left after one night. The guys who are now running the place are not doing a bad job....but it's not what it was. We stayed in the Treetops Suite...$284 plus tax...and I don't consider that good value when tiles are broken on the floor, the sheets were very worn with holes in, and we couldn't hang up any clothers in the under eaves wardrobe because it was full of Christmas Decorations and there were no hangars. The Mangement moved all the decorations...but it looked like no one had used this room for some time. The guy running the place said the bank had instructed them not to spend a penny on anything so they couldn't replace sheets and broken tiles but if they are charging $300 a night then they need to re-think some of these decisions. Nassau House became bank owned at the end of March and is now up for sale....would I have stayed there if I had known this in advance...no. There are great restuarants around...we enjoyed Mangia Mangia..ask for a table in the garden..and Michaels around the corner is good but expensive. I suppose if you haven't been to Nassau Hpuse before then you wouldn't know the difference, but if you have then you will be disappointed. Other reviews mention problems with parking, but the side alley is adequate...we've never had a problem. The walk to Duval is about 15 minutes...but that's the beauty of Key West you can just park up the car and not get into it again before you leave. Sad to see Nassau House like this
