“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2012 NEW

My wife, daughter and I checked into The Reach for a one night stay in May 2012. After checking in, the lady at the front desk walked us to the elevator telling us there is one closer to our room than the one in the lobby. She was right, and we were glad she showed us. We got a room on the 5th floor overlooking the ocean and the pool. The view was incredible!

The room (botique suite i think it was called) was clean, and had a flat screen tv, wifi, a little fridge, espresso maker, and all the usual stuff. The towels and sheets were some of the nicest I've seen in a hotel. We didn't use the hotel amenities much as we were only there for one night, but did use the pool and it was very nice.

Hotel is within walking distance of Duval Street, but was also not right in the middle of everything so was nice and quiet in the evening.

Had to ask a couple of times for a crib for our daughter, but the second time I asked, the crib arrived at the door almost before I had a chance to hang up the phone!

I enjoyed my time at The Reach and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Inconsistent with brand”

As other reviews indicate, I would not consider this property worthy of the Waldorf Astoria brand. Don't get me wrong - I had a good experience at the property, but it doesn't qualify as luxury. I booked an ocean vista boutique suite for five nights. I was given room 228 - this room is located on the second floor at the front of the property. It has a limited/restricted view of the ocean/beach. If you want a better view, ask for something closer to the pool. Upon arrival, the room was ready and clean. There are signs of wear -- carpet, rusting metal in bathroom, paint in need of touch up -- but in decent shape. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, so it would get a bit stuffy. Also, there was a light out in the bathroom and the bulb went unchanged during our stay. Some dirt/wear on the bathroom door was also noted. Daily cleaning was performed - no complaints except that one day, the maid left the sliding door to the balcony open. Nothing was taken, but it took quite a while to cool the room (Key West is WARM & HUMID). Service staff were friendly and accommodating. No issues with valet/bell staff - they were courteous and always available. Location is on a quieter part of the Key, but very accessible - Duval is an easy walk.

Would I stay at this property again? Probably not - at least not my top choice. I'd probably look into a vacation rental or guest house. The resort fee added no value for our party - we all got free wifi since we're AT&T customers and we didn't use the pool since it is only open during daylight hours.

Is the resort a nice place to stay? Yes. Is it luxurious, elegant or world class? No. Don't be impressed by the WA label - this is more of a Hilton experience.

Room Tip: If you want a good beach/ocean view - request a room closer to the pool or beach.

“Perfect Anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2012 NEW

This was the most relaxing week of my life. The Concierges, Yanni and Rcardo on the beach, Derrick in The Strip House restaraunt and the trio of sweet ladies who cleaned our rooms and kept us stocked up were absolutely wonderful. The staff really made our trip. The hotel was walking distance to Duval and many restaurants and having Ambrosia (sushi) next door was an added treat. The rooms were great and the views and beach are noce, but it's the staff that makes the stay. We hope to return after Christmas. Food and sun was well in order and the calimari at the Strip House were to die for.

“Relaxing trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2012 NEW

My husband and I have been to Key West three times, with two of those times at Casa Marina. However, we were very pleased with our most recent experience at The Reach. The beach was much nicer than Casa (no rocks), and we got a bigger suite than what we would have paid at Casa. Brian at the valet stand and Patrick at beach services were very attentive. Cathie and Evelyn at Concierge and VIP guest services were great. Love the turn down service at night. The only small negatives were I didn't feel the front desk staff were on par with other Waldorf Astoria resorts (still nice, but I expect just a little more) and the pool could do with a remodel. Overall, a very relaxing week!

Room Tip: We had room 441 with a larger balcony and amazing ocean view!!!

“reach...ing but not there”

First the good news: The staff here tries Really hard to make this a superior resort. From the manager on down you are constantly getting five star service. That said,,it is five star service at a 3 star resort and that is reaching far to insert a pun. Now the bad news: as for the reviews saying this is a lovely beach and pool I would ask them if they saw them blindfolded. The beach smelled of gasoline from the rental jet skis ans is small and dirty. The pool is small for a resort with no spa. They ran out of umbrellas and chairs at 2pm. we had to scrounge for ourselves. There is no restaurant owned by the property. The one connected has a geat view but is obsenely overpriced, like everything in Key West, and portions and quality are poor. The rooms are adequatw but plumbing is poor and breaks frequently. Violent guests at 2AM in hall we met by an inept security guard who told me he was calling police. Thenext morning the manager told me that none were called because it was hotel policy tocall only if guests have already been attacked. If this is a Hilton policy I am amazed and would urge guests to check on this before staying at this property or any Hilton. Best bet is to go to Miami Beach and pay the same crazy rates for amuch nicer beach and pool.

Room Tip: It is a four hour relentless juggernaut of a drive to Key West from Miami. Not worth it.
