“Nice stay - nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I liked the hotel. We stay at Doubletree's all the time. The front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful. Waitstaff for the restaurant were very nice also. They could use some work with there cleaning staff - none of the hotels seem to do a good job letting the cleaning staff know to be quiet and not scream down the hallways. We get this everywhere we go. cleaning staff seems to think their "work" place is like their home - not the customers "home" away from home.

I have to tell you that if you travel all the time for business you will not find the rooms extraordinary here at the Doubletree - you will not be disappointed in the rooms but they are just rooms. Maybe the suites have something more to offer. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were clean.

Overall very satisfied with the stay. We used our own car to drive around and we parked our own car. But I did see lots of people using their shuttle and the shuttle did seem to run right on schedule.

Room Tip: If you want any type of view and a balcony ask for a pool view. The balcony is really nothing to ta...

“Needs maintenance - Terrible mattresses”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

First, I'd like to say that most of the hotel staff were terrific! Kudos to a very helpful and pleasant staff. Great customer service (with the exception of one bizarre experience).
Second, the bad....
1)Mattresses were the singularly the worst I have ever experienced in a hotel. It isn't just that they were old, they were clearly very cheap to begin with. One was slightly poked by the springs etc. For the price of the rooms, I expected at least a mid tier mattress.
2)Maintenance. Someone really needs to get their hands on room and general hotel maintenance. Had any one of these items occurred, we would have overlooked it, but there were so many issues and again with the price we were paying I was shocked.
-Water all over the floor when we first entered from the refrigerator being unplugged and the ice box thawing.
-Burned out light bulbs
-Ripped/holes in the sofa upholstery
-Heavily stained upholstery
-Badly scuffed/dinged walls. Needed paint
-Broken ironing board
-Floor tile/grout looked pretty dingy
-Room cards had to be "re-keyed" a couple of times
-Buttons on elevator didn't work (I talked to other people staying in the hotel that had the same problem in the elevator)

Room Tip: Fourth floor balconies on the west side have a great view of the sunset.

“Had a great time”

Hotel was very nice, and reasonably priced. We had a balcony room overlooking the pool. Personnel were all friendly. Warm chocolate cookies excellent. Ask for the ones with nuts if you like them better than plain! We used the shuttle back and forth one night (had a rental car) when the Christmas Parade was going on. The hotel added additional shuttles to handle the extra load. One of the drivers in the afternoon gave us a joke-laced, historical tour on the way back to the hotel. We wondered why we had paid for the Conch Train Tour! All in all a great time!

“Would Definitely Go Back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We went to Key West in Dec. of 2010 & stayed at the double tree. So many hotels closer to Duval were insanely expensive. I was hesitant to book at first since Duval is on the other side of the Island, but the shuttle service is what sold me on Double Tree. They hotel was nice & the pool was even nicer. The shuttle saved us a lot of money & it is a short 5 minute trip from the down town attractions. We would definitely stay here again. ONE small issue, I wish the shuttle ran past 11pm. Their last drop off/pick up was 11 so if you wanted to stay out at the bars later you had to get a cab. But we always hopped the 11pm shuttle then bought drinks for the room @ the convenience store next to the hotel.

“A great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

My wife and I had been to Key West two years earlier on a vacation and were not impressed with the accommodations at another hotel (so much so we were not planning on going back). We decided to give Key West another chance and we were not disappointed. The hotel staff was very nice when we checked in. We needed a crib for our son, which they promptly brought to our room which was clean. There were some of the spacers that they put in to separate tiles on a floor visible in the mortar, however, it was level with floor and the room was otherwise very well kept. We also ordered room service on the first night (a hamburger and a chicken sandwich). We both thought the food was good and the price was inline with what you would pay at a chili’s ($10-$12 per sandwich). We did have a breakfast one of the days we stayed which was on the pricer side for a buffet ($25-$30 for two). The hotel was nice and quiet (even on New Years Eve!). The shuttle service was great. I thought the pictures on the website did a great job in showing how the hotel looks. The pool area was well kept and we spent some great time there. I really liked the location of the hotel, away from Duvall St. It’s a 10-15 minute ride to the downtown area and when you had enough of the downtown noise you can go back to your quiet hotel. The hotel is also closer to the east side of the Key which seems to be much last traveled and has some great and less traveled beaches. I would say this may not be the place to stay if you want to come right out of a bar on Duvall St and go to your hotel, but I really liked this hotel and would definitely stay here again for the quiet area, great amenities and service.

Room Tip: The north side of the hotel faces the water and I think some of the rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors...
