“A great oasis of calm in Key West”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

A great B&B in the heart of Key West, up towards the quieter end of Duval St. Most rooms are towards the rear of the Inn and are peaceful. Its about a 15 minute walk to everywhere....Mallory Sq; Southernmost Point; The Harbour. Hemingway's House is less than 5 mins and only a block away.
We stayed in the Banyantree room, first floor with views of the pool and the tops of the palm trees. A lovely room, nicely furnished, with a second bed in a small bedroom adjacent. A large walk-in shower and good bathroom with quality shampoo/shower gels. You could see into most of the other rooms and they all have same standards, some a shade smaller as you would expect with a traditional property, but how much space do you need for a few days?
Service was excellent as you should expect from the family run Inn, Brandi was very helpful and attentive, housekeeping were prompt and efficient.
The Inn is old KW style, has a comfortable feel. Breakfast was excellent, gallons of coffee, fruit, cereals breads yoghurts and usually a meat/eggs. The surprise each day was what was on the hot plate? apple french toast, nice cakey things, breakfast quiche one day, and all fresh and tasty.
All in all an extremely nice few days and worth a visit.

Room Tip: Banyantree room is one of the best; quiet, large terrace. Pool view rooms looked great, Steps to the...

“Great Place”

We loved the Tropical Inn on Duval street in Key West. The owner's were informative regarding the area & the rooms were all decorated beautifully in modern/Key's Style fashion. Not grandma/antique style like some B & B's. The back garden/hot tub/pool/breakfast area was lush, private, quite and very relaxing. We stayed in the Mango room, the room is small but the large private patio makes it a winner. We highly recommend the Tropical Inn and look forward to another visit.

“UNFAIR”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I made a reservation at this hotel and was not informed of a $50 processing fee if I needed to cancel. I was told I could cancel 14 days in advanced with no penalty. Unfortunately I had to cancel the trip and I called 31 days in advance to cancel. They charged me a $50 processing fee. What is this fee for? To rip people off not even staying at your hotel?? I asked them to kindly wave as the person that made my reservation did not inform me, they were just rude and smug about the situation and didn't care. I would have liked to stay another time but now I will never stay again and let my friends and family know not to stay there either.

This prospective guest booked her reservation online. Therefore, her allegation that she was not "told" about the $50 cancellation fee is patently fallacious.

In fact, the booking engine requires the guest to acknowledge the policy as a mandatory step in the online process. Without it, a reservation will not go to completion. Thereupon, the guest is automatically sent a confirmation restating the policy via email. Then, when we manually complete the process by running her credit card for the deposit, the guest receives yet another iteration.

When she called to cancel, we stated that we were sorry she wouldn't be able to keep her reservation, but that -- in accordance with the cancellation policy --- we would cheerfully refund her deposit, less the $50 cancellation fee. She objected, using profanity and threatening to "trash us" on Tripadvisor if we didn't waive the policy for her. This "review" is proof that she meant it.

We are charged a substantial fee by the credit card companies when a guest books (deposit) and again, if they cancel (refund). Our cancellation fee is in place to cover the cost of these expenses and staff time involved to process the transactions.

We regret that this guest felt that, in spite of our policy being clearly stated THREE separate times in the booking process -- and another on our website where she, presumably, found us -- that she should somehow be exempt, and thereby, entitled to defame us as a result.

“Great location, friendly staff”

I recently enjoyed a visit to Key West and a four night stay at the Tropical Inn. I had the Key Lime Loft which was clean and very comfortable. I had everything I needed and enjoyed staying on Duval Street, although at the back of the house so I missed the noise of any night time party people.

Brandi checked me in and was very helpful in arranging a seaplane trip for me to the Dry Tortugas (don't miss this, really) and also suggested a very good restaurant for me to try on my first night.

Key West is a bit expensive and I could have spent less money, but.... I would rather pay for something nice than to feel ripped off by getting a two star hotel at a higher than normal price. The Tropical Inn was the perfect compromise, costs a little more, but great location, CLEAN, great staff, and comfortable!

Room Tip: Try a locally owned B&B for a better value. The owners and staff really do care that you are hap...

“Great Wedding & Honeymoon Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed at the Tropical Inn for our wedding and honeymoon over New Year's. The innkeeper Brandi and other staff were amazing. We arrived with a friendly greeting and it only got better. We stayed in the Pineapple Hideaway, which was pretty much like having a small cottage in Key West, not a hotel or B & B, this was more than we expected and were pleasantly surprised. The ability to rent bikes on property was great and allowed us to make so much more of our time in Key West. The location on Duval makes it easy to get to both ends of Duval as well as the Key West Bight. We can not say enough about the cleanliness, coziness and charm of this place. The ability to buy beer and snacks on property were great and its only a short trip to all the great restaurants and of course Walgreens. We ate at Blue Heaven and Santiagos Bodega, which are not on Duval but very convenient from the Tropical Inn. Is was also very close to the Green Parrot a must see for those that enjoy a great dive bar.

Room Tip: The Pineapple Hideaway is accessible from the main entrance as well as its own front porch that sits...
