Reviewer Seadog1947 says if you want a quiet room, get one on the pool side. I swear on my pets' lives that that is horrible advice.
When you book, they ask if you want a room on the pool side. They conveniently leave out that the pool includes a bar that plays music, loudly, all night long, even if no one's at the bar (and no one was.) Unless you enjoy staying awake all hours, don't subject yourself to this punishment.
Key West has only two kinds of hotels: expensive resorts, and dismal, overpriced 1950's era dumps like this one. The place is cracked and coming to bits in places. The elevator sounds like it's dying, and the hand-lettered sign that reads "Certificate is in office" doesn't exactly assuage one's fears.
The pool itself isn't bad, during daylight hours. There was a mini-fridge in the room. It's one of those motels where you open your curtains and people can watch you and...I'm sorry, it's hard to concentrate as I write this review. Why? Because I'm listening to Paul McCartney and Wings playing "Band on the Run" so loudly my eyes are bleeding. Turning on the air conditioning only muffles the noise slightly. Please speak up, I can't hear you.
