“King of the Road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

My husband and I stayed overnight at this little motel on President's day weekend in February. We had read some of the reviews after we had booked so we were anxious. But when we pulled in to the parking lot the potholes had all been fixed. Mike at the desk was understated, but emphasized the non-smoking policy and sent us to an upstairs room. Sure the place needs a little more sprucing up, but the bathroom in the room was clean and the bathtub looked new; the beds were comfortable and again, clean. Mike recommended a restaurant on the nearby Marina that was walking distance away. The restaurant hit the right note with live Reggae music and fresh fish. The price of the room on that premium weekend was half what other places were charging and suited us for the one night. We left the next day to go snorkelling and see Jesus of the Abyss. I would recommend this motel to people who are not expecting anything fancy, but who want to be centrally located. I really think the management is making an effort and should be commended for that.

“Don't go there if you're looking for a child friendly place to stay”

We were a group of 8, two families with 2 children each (aged between 2 and 7). The morning we were going to check out a staff member asked us - between 8 and 9 am - up to three times if our children could be more quiet. The first time I agreed, I had just asked the children mysef to be quiet while they were running down the stairs. But the two other times, we were having breakfast near the pool, they were not noisy at all (the hotel is situated near a busy street, the cars made more noise then the children).
After breakfast my friend and I took the children for a trip with a glass bottom boat while our husbands went diving. We arranged to meet each other again around noon at the poolside of the hotel. We brought some sandwiches for lunch and were planning to leave after lunch. Not a single soul was around there at the moment, but the manager asked us to leave immediately because we had checked out that morning...

Our staff is always polite and courteous to our guests, even when a problem exists. In the early morning when we observe small children running down the hallways unattended, we have a duty and responsibility to take action for safety and the comfort of all our guests. This complaint is unfortunate, we however do have rules about food and glass around our pool. Again, we are always polite, but we must be safety minded. Had this guest simply asked our staff where they could dine on our property after check out time, we would have offered a lovely table in our courtyard.

“Skip this one!”

The parking lot is a gravel area with LARGE potholes filled with water. I think the hotel must have been built in the 1940's or 1950's and never renovated. The electrical outlets are all only two pronged outlets (none of them are GFI). If you have any appliances that have three prongs or two prongs where one is larger than the other, you have to use an adapter.

The hairdryer was corroded and did not work when I plugged it in. When I tried to unplug it, it started falling apart. I left it where it was since I was afraid of being electrocuted!

The "breakfast" consisted of coffee and a prepakaged danish. There was also a container of juice with ice in a cooler.

The prices were not even that cheap compared with some of the other motels in the area.

I would DEFINITELY skip this one if I were you!

Our hotel has four parking areas and our main area is paved. All our guest rooms have grounded
electrical outlets and GFI outlets in the bathrooms. All hair dryers also have GFI s in the plugs.
Additionally, for our European guests all rooms have adapters (two round) for the European appliances. We offer clean, quiet lodging and provide free breakfast items as well as free WIFI.

First of all we were told to park our motorcycles behind the building, that there was a concrete slab in the parking area, when we went back there, the parking area is all gravel, the only slab was a handicap parking space.
NEVER NEVER again will I pay for a room without looking at it first. The door to our room had a 2X4 attached to it (because someone obviously broke the door), you had to hold the entire hair dryer from the outlet by the bathroom door, the dryer had bugs in it's holder & in the dryer. I have seen newer TV's in the dumpster, than the one that was in our room. The water in the shower came out with low pressure, but it was at least warm.$ 49 for the night would still have been too much to pay...but $ 88.88 was outragous.
When we registered in the office, you explained your "no smoking" policy, which led us to believe the property was well maintained. It really doesn't matter that you don't allow people to smoke, when the rest of the place looks they way it does. If you want to stay in business in this tough economy, I would I suggest you lower your rates & advertise it as a no frills, low rates, no smoking place to stay in Key Largo, otherwise you will be amoung the many closed businesses in the area.

Our hotel offers clean, smoke free accommodations for the quiet comfort of all our guests.
We have four parking areas including our main completely paved area. When guests make special requests, such as motorcycle parking close to their window we try to help. If any guest
does not find our facilities to their liking they simply need to alert us and we will offer alternative
accommodations elsewhere and cheerfully provide a refund. All televisions, cable, air conditioning, coffee makers and hair dryers are kept in top condition and fully operational. All doors and windows are modern and provide safe occupancy. Our facilities are economically priced to provide the best value in the area, which is our pledge.

“Probably a safety hazard”

OK, for a 1-star hotel, this place is in bad shape. The good: it is centrally located in Key Largo. The bad: It is an old place that is poorly maintained. The ugly: Uneven gravel parking with large pools of water. Poorly maintained surroundings. Garbage under stairwell. Unpainted stairwells. No elevators. Termite invested with termite droppings everywhere in the washroom. Poor drainage in the washroom. Strange bugs in the washrooms. Lights in the washroom worked intermittently. Old television with only one working speaker. Carpets were dirty. Had to change room.

Our hotel provides clean and safe accommodations. We have four parking areas, the largest of which is completely paved. Our property has no stairwells all staircases to the second floor are exterior. All facilities are in good working order and any claims to the contrary are unfounded. We are a strictly non smoking facility and no exceptions can be made to that policy for the comfort of
all our guests.
