Stayed one night at the Holiday Inn on our way back from the Lower Keys. This is a very average hotel. We arrived before 3pm check in time and no effort to get us in our room early, we were told "it's being cleaned" - which was still the case 2 hours later. Front desk staff were pretty indifferent.
Once we got into the room, it was fine, though the hallway smelled a bit moldy (tile would probably be an improvement over the carpeting, which has seen better days). The room itself was a typical medium sized hotel room with a decent size balcony - but the AC unit for the room next door vented onto our balcony, so not the greatest design.
We were on the 2nd floor of the building with very pretty "marina views" which looked like by far the best part of the hotel. The other rooms all overlook either parking lots, or the pool area, which we thought was dreadful - a concrete expanse surrounded by chain link fence with a very worn looking Tiki Bar.
As a Holiday Inn rewards members we got coupons for free morning coffee from the restaurant, but stood at the hostess desk for ages waiting for someone to come. I finally had to tackle the guy clearing tables who was trying his best not to make eye contact.
We were only in Key Largo briefly but thought the Hilton and Marriott both looked a lot nicer than the Holiday Inn.
This hotel was an ok place to sleep on the way through, but that's about it.
