I first heard of the lodge 5-6 years ago and when the opportunity came to visit it in Key Largo, we took it. I'm a fairly experienced diver but my two adult kids, who came with me, are qualified but inexperienced. There was no issues for any of us with the diving and there shouldn't be for novices (I'm a qualified instructor). In any event, the staff are professional and helpful.
The diving itself is easy and shallow, if unspectacular. The experience is the Lodge itself. We had a fantastic time and were very well fed. Despite that, we felt we had to order an underwater Pizza delivery, simply because we could! This is a unique experience, enhanced by the fact that the Lodge has an illustrious history, including a historic link-up with Skylab, when it was used for research.
In summary, highly recommended. To get the most out of a trip, try scuba beforehand and get a basic qualification, otherwise you will have to have some instruction on site.
