“Great place, amazing views”

We are Miami locals and love to escape to the Keys for weekend getaways. Since we are locals we know the tourist rip offs and have high expectations. This hotel met or exceeded our expectations on almost every level. We usually stay a little further down in the middle keys. But we wanted to bring our dog along and was surprised that this hotel allows dogs to stay at the hotel. Ususally pet hotels are not resorts or nice hotels. This place was so clean and nice. True resort with 2 pools and multiple beach activites. They even have nature trails and private beach areas. Too much to mention. We rented a gulf of mexico view and the view was AMAZING. We got to see one amazing Key Largo sunset from OUR BALCONY. We walked our dog in the parking lot and always bring bags to clean up after our dog if she does her business. We only saw one other dog there. When we walked our dog, we felt shunned by some guests. Our dog does not bark nor create any problems. We loved the hotel and will go back. I hope some dog owners dont ruin it for other dog owners and clean up after their dogs. This resort is very nice and we cant wait to go back. The staff is very professional and wear uniforms in the service areas. The food is good at the restaurant. Yes the parking is expensive. Great resort. As a local and a frequent traveler to the keys, I can tell you this is one of the best places to stay in the Keys. Even though there are not many negative reviews of this resort, dont believe the dog haters or negative reviews of this resort. This is truly a beautiful Key Largo resort.

Room Tip: water views are worth the extra $$

“Excellent Property - Lackluster Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

The hotel rooms are dated and could stand an overhaul or at least a good cleaning. The carpets definitely need to be replaced or steam cleaned.

I was also suprised by the $14 per night parking fee. I was not notified of that when I made the reservations or when I checked in. And, honestly, I thought it was ridiculous for the quality of the hotel and its location.

The property, situated in a hardwood hammock, is what makes a stay here as well as the staff in the restaurant. The pools are clean and the bar and towel staff were friendly and professional.

I would stay here again because of the propery but that stay will be postponed until the rooms are given some attention and the management rethinks the parking policy. This hotel is not the Hiliton in NYC.

Thank you for your helpful feedback. I am very happy that you would stay here again and that your comments on my resort staff, our beautiful hardwood hammock and pools were all very positive. I am sorry that you feel the carpets need to be cleaned better and that you were not informed on our parking fee prior to arrival. I will review with the front desk staff and reservations department about the necessity to communicate effectively the details of that fee. In addition to our daily cleaning of the guest rooms we also have a deep cleaning program that ensures all of our carpets are cleaned at least four times a year, a minimum of once every three months. I thank you again for your feedback and look forward to servicing you again in the future.

“Good location, somewhat overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The hotel is very nice and has fabulous pools. The beach strip is microscopic but there are no waves and people were even taking the beach chairs and sitting in the water. We had some beautiful birds hanging around the hammocks, and the bear bar bartenders were ver friendly.

The hotel staff overall were courteous and professional, and my only complaint is that the food is way overpriced. We had appetizers and a couple of drinks and were out over one hundred dollars, but the sunset view from the restaurant was worth it

You can go to nearby restaurants and eat much better food for reasonable prices. I would return to this hotel without a doubt.

“Should not be a Hilton”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I was terribly disappointed in this property apart from the lobby and grounds it is just shabby.
We were in room 339, which was average apart from the bathroom, which was so small you had trouble closing the door. The bathroom fixtures were dirty and the shower curtain rail rusty. The bathroom floor had hairs behind the door that were there for three days.

There was a ball of hair outside your room door for the whole stay and further down a squashed cricket or similar which also was there for the whole stay, obviously the hallways are never cleaned.

The restaurant has no atmosphere and was freezing everyday, it took 45 minutes from ordering our main course till it reached the table. When it arrived the food was hot and tasty.

The cost of the breakfast buffet is outrages at $18.95 and the only milk offered for cereal was whole milk. Luckily for most of the stay we had a breakfast package but we still got charged $0.01 per day on our bill, which the front desk could not explain.

Parking charges of $14/day and internet access of $12/day is outrages.

The hotel computers in the lobby were filthy (keyboards thick with dust) and running such old versions of internet explorer that a lot of websites would not run properly.

The 2 pools were ok apart from the thump thump music all day.

Took 4 trips to the lobby to obtain my breakfast vouchers, as they never had any.

So beware before you book.

Room Tip: Not sure which rooms are best but do not go for the queen rooms on the road side due to tiny bathroo...

“DOGS DOGS DOGS DOGS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Having booked a winter break to escape the monotony of the British winter and to celebrate our wedding anniverary we decided upon a hotel at which we had stayed 2 years previously the Hilton Key Largo Resort ( and now KENNELS ).
We once again looked at the " resorts " own web page ( not the HILTON official web page ) and all seemed as it was on our previous stay so with that in mind we booked up for a four night stay.
On checking in we were dealt with efficiently and allocated a room on the third floor overlooking the bay.........all very nice up to now..... ...... upon entering a fairly tatty room we shrugged our shoulders and thought..........well it's acceptable.
Having just travelled around 5000 miles from the UK we just wanted to be showered and get some rest, however, this was not to be the case.
I layed on the bed to rest and immediately heard some banging comming from an adjacent room.........maintenance ??........well i supose it's got to be done ?.....the we heard a dog bark......oh well maybe the maintenance guy has brought his dog to work with him ? Oh well it's better than leaving the dog alone all day we thought ,afterall whats a little barking.
We decided to sit out on the balcony with a cold drink and watch the world go by.....however,our dreams of peace and tranquility were shattered when to our amazment and dismay we get constant barking from next doors balcony and in the distance another dog barking in reply ! ( IT GOES ON AND ON ) A call down to the front desk to bring this to the attention of the receptionist was met with a reassuring " not a problem sir, we WILL DEAL with it ",all very good we assumed and let it go at that .
20 minutes later and more and more barking i made a further call and this time i was put in touch with the Manageress who assured me in no uncertain terms that this was "not an acceptable situation and that nothing and nobody should spoil our vacation and that the dog and it's owner would be asked to leave the hotel",with this assurance in mind we escaped the din to go fishing on the pier until the problem had been solved. ( still no mention that the hotel was canine friendly,we thought somebody had sneaked in a dog for a night ).
From the pier we could see our room and obviously the room next door and to our amazment was a guy on the balcony with his feet up sipping a cold one with his dog enjoying the warm breeze.......nice vision ? ................ 2 hours went by and still the neighbour was sat outside with his dog ( please recall the Manageress had said " nothing and nobody","unacceptable" " asked to leave " )
We went back to our room and immediately called the Manageress who informed me that she had "rang the room and the occupants cell phone but to no avail,he must have gone out and left the dog in the room alone",.........i informed her that he has been sat outside for the past two hours ??? " oh !" came the slightly less than assured reply............ now call me a sceptic if you wish but i was by now smelling a cover up........ had the Manageress even rang the room? why did she not use a master key to access the room ? Why did she not do everything within her power to sort this problem out?
Simmering on the edge of boiling i decided to leave the hotel and go and get a pizza but decided to go via check-in to vent my spleen.
I was met by a decent guy called Fabian who said to me " oh yeah your the dog guy " sadly my reply was less than cheerfull............. " NO.I'M NOT THE ....... DOG GUY!!! " Im a guy who has travelled 5000 miles for a vacation with my good lady at an extortionate cost, who has been allocated a freaking room next door to the USA kennel club convention!!! So please excuse me if im less than jolly at this moment in time !
After 10 minutes of stating my case i left with the knowledge that this " resort " was indeed a dog friendly " hotel" ( kennel) .
............now i have nothing against our canine friends but not at $230+ per night at my expence and furthermore and in all probability the said canines were more likely than not to be sleeping on the beds........the very same beds that i am paying a kings ransome to sleep on !
Armed with evidence of a cover up and further proof that the " hotels own" website DOES NOT inform potential customers that dogs and there owners are allocated rooms anywhere within the the "hotels" accomodation ANYWHERE even the bridalsuite.........i could go on and on but the warning to all potential HILTON customers is ........... Hilton are a dog friendly chain who " do not discriminate against dogs " as Fabian at check in informed me ,they DO NOT OPENLY ADVERTISE THE FACT. I was informed that the rooms were DEEP cleaned after every dog stay but on leaving i sat in the carpark and watched as the maid cleaned the room,i saw no deep cleaning eqipment being used and for that matter how the hell do you deep clean a matress that may be harbouring fleas from dogs across America.
I demanded a full refund for one nights stay and that was granted on my departure.
Also beware of extortionate parking charges and a resort fee .
On the plus side i did speak with a lady called Carol who works through the night on the front desk............. a credit to Hiltons Key Largo " resort ".
The above statement is a true reflection of my stay .

Room Tip: Any room if you have a dog
