We stayed at the Floating Inn for 9 nights in early January and were very happy. The room was spacious, we could make our own breakfast and take it on the balcony while watching the sun rise. To our great delight there were no mosquitoes and we spent an afternoon on the little beach. Although the house floats on the shallow waters at the edge of the mangrove we never felt it swaying; part perhaps a few very very subtle sways on a very windy day. The owners are super friendly and went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable and comfortable. We could not recommend a better place as an original base to spend a week exploring the nearby Keyes and Everglades as if you were a local. We would come back for the warm welcome and restful hideaway. As said before, it is not for everyone but was PERFECT for us - bohemian nature lovers, laid back & curious college profs with a bit of an anthropological approach to travels.
BOBOs and those looking for a luxury resort atmosphere should pass.
There is a restaurant next door with delicious sea food where you can have breakfast/brunch or lunch and a lively all you can eat Friday night fish fry. YUMMMY
