My trip to the Keys was planned after spending 12 nights around the Disney area and as we had flown into Miami and hired a car i thought 4 or 5 days in the Keys would be a great place to unwind before going back to the UK. I had always planned to just book a hotel in the Keys maybe a few days before leaving Disney but as it turned out we just decided to drive downand see what was on offer with a little help from Tripadvisor.
To be honest I was quite shocked at the poor quality of hotels around Key Largo and how expensive they were and I was also a little disappointed with the Keys at first as I had been expecting a little more of a Carribean look and feel, nice beaches, turquoise water but it isn't like that, but actually the place grew on us the longer we stayed. The first two nights we stayed at the Holiday Inn which was ok apart from the noise which kept waking us up. After two nights we had enough and decided to have a look for something else. We found this place for $20 more a night and I was kicking myself that I had not booked the full 4 nights here. We had a queen bed and pullout sofa bed which was just about ok for our two daughters for a few nights. The rooms are really nice and roomy with plenty of storage space. There is a hair dryer, iron, coffee machine, free wifi and flat screen where you get a load of free channels or you can buy films at ridiculous prices, something like $14.99 or listen to the music channel for 120 minutes for $9.95 but that's te same across most hotels and to be honest you shouldn't be watching that stuff on your hols.
The free breakfast was great and there was a good hot and cold selection, the swimming pool was ok but could do with a few more loungers, the man made beach was nice with a great view, palm trees etc. My only negative on this place is they did not have a pool or beach bar with a bit of background music which would have been really nice. There is a place next to the pool which looks like it was once used for that and there is also a little bar on the beach where occasionally someone brings a few bottles of wine, beers and spirits and sells them to guests but to be honest it's pretty lame. Apart from that I would definitely recommend it, especially if you love wildlife, the Manatees are amazing!
We stayed on the second floor 215 which was pretty nice and quiet
