“Great resort but no ocean access for swimming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

This resort was very nie and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was a little disappointed with the location (under the bridge) thinking that if would be loud or not have the resort like quality I was looking for, but I WAS WRONG. Once on the site, looking out at the water, there was no bridge sound and we felt totally immersed in the resort feeling. The grounds are a bit small, with no palm lined meandering paths I would have likes to see, but the views of the water made up for it. All balconies overlook the water, although you are warned not to swim off the dock due to crocodiles! The dolphins played just off shore and we were delighted to see the manatee come out from under the dock at dusk. Not the most luxurious resort you will find, but fun, well maintained and a fabulous staff made it a great place to stay. One thing I would have liked is an oven or toaster oven (as mentioned by other guests)

“Awesome View! Great Service!”

I have enjoyed every minute of my stay here at the Anchorage! I hate to leave. The staff have been consistently helpful and friendly. The view is AWESOME! The room is very nice - feels homey with a comfortable sofa and recliner, has a king size bed with a good mattress. I love the 'sit-down' make up table area and the kitchen is great (only thing I would have liked more would have been a small toaster-broiler oven to re-heat left-over fried foods.)

It has been a joy to be able to leave my boat right in the water here at an affordable rate & very handy to have a place next door with a ramp, gas at the dock, & competent staff whom I felt could help if I ran into any trouble. Next door also has a nice restaurant & tiki bar.

I have seen complaints online about the noise of the bridge - which is no longer an issue due to the new bridge. I also had no problem with the music at the place across the water. The noise level wasn't excessive, I could not hear it AT ALL with the A/C on & they stop at a reasonable hour.

The pool, spa, patio area, etc. are all great. They have water accessible everywhere to make it easy to rinse off boats, self, etc. There are even indoor showers by the pool.

All in all, even though the Anchorage is an older facility, I have had no complaints and will return, I'm sure, repeatedly.

“Nice views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2009

We stayed a week here - the coldest week all year. We were not able to take advantage of the water sports as it was too windy & cold without wetsuits.
We were warned prior to reserving, there would be construction but didn't realize it would be jackhammers by 7:30 a.m. every weekday.
The building is outside entrance motel style; all rooms with a water view. There is an elevator. The 1 bedroom condo was large & comfortably furnished. The kitchen well stocked but no oven. One would use an outside grill in better weather or micro. The condo was very clean. The kitchen refrig. was dented and rusting on the outside but otherwise clean. The kitchen cabinets are old stock & formica which lent an air of datedness to the condo. The bathroom is typical of an old motel & could use an update. A wall of windows opens to a screened-in porch looking over a tennis court, shuffle board & marinia. There is a pool & the hot tub was small & questionable. The sunset over the water every day was lovely from both rooms & porch.
Staff was helpful. Next door there is a restaurant/bar with reasonable food and nice atmosphere near the marina. Across the inlet with access by car only is a Tiki Hut bar with live music some evenings - subdued because of the chilly weather but probably rockin' in season. Some rooms might be affected by the loud music but we were not.
We used timeshare points to pay for this & wanted to stay on or nearer Key West but nothing else was available that week.
I don't see how the resort is in Key Largo as it sits outside the city limit sign & is not on the Key but over bridges. It is not convenient to anything except 2 or 3 restaurants/bars & marina..One can't be any further from Key West & still be in the Keys. We drove to Key West in abt. 2 hours & spent the night. Considering the number of timeshare points we spent, we could have stayed somewhere much nicer & more convenient. It is abt. 10 m. to the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park where one can rent equipment to dive or snorkel the coral reefs. There is a small beach & there aren't many in Largo.
Bring your own bicycles & kayaks as there is no place to rent bikes on Key Largo - we checked!! - and kayak rentals are expensive.
