“Terrible for so many reasons”

The pictures you see are from the back of the hotel. There is no swimming here but thats the case almost everywhere in Key Largo. The views and docks are common in this area and available at virtually every hotel. The rooms are large, no maid service and extensive instructions on what should be cleaned before checkout. The internet service barely works so plan on going to the lobby often if you need it. The lobby is only open a limited time and the only restaurant I saw was always closed. This hotel is right below a large bridge in what can only be described as a ditch. As soon as it rained the road to the hotel and the hotel parking lot was flooded to way above your ankles. Mosquitos and no-see-ums are the worse I've ever seen. This hotel was mediocre at best washing machines and dryer on floor didn't work. There are no skid runners on the stairs and someone fell and had to be taken to the hospital while I was there. I would have left this hotel without any other thought then I'm never staying here again after seeing what else was available in this area, except for my checkout experience. I had to re-enter my room after my husband left the key at the front desk. I went back and asked for the key and gave my room number. The person told me I wasn't staying in that room because they hadn't checked out...you must remember your number wrong. I said no, that's my room. After insisting that wasn't my room for a few minutes I say who do you have in that room. She was very proud to uphold national security and told me that was private. At this point I'm wondering about my credit card getting charged since apparently I haven't checked out and they give you no receipt or any type of paperwork at all during checkout. My friends that had a timeshare week in another room come down to turn in their keys and the girl says thank you Mr Mills, we don't know who Mr. Mills is either. So I ask the girl if she can write me a note saying I'VE checked out and she is sticking with her story she does not want to tell me the name of who was in my room. The fact that the name is of no importance I only want MY name as being checked out seems to escape her. I ask her if she can write a note saying I am checked out but she tells me she can't do that. Right now I have no receipt I checked out, I was refused a letter saying I checked out and as far as I'm concerned they can charge the person whose name they wrote down for this room. If I get a charge bill for more days than was on my charge card or any additional charges I will be updating this review.

Great place, really enjoyed the pool. Yes the elevator did smell but it wasnt like you were in there for a long time. The condo was really nice had lots of space. My only issue was that the bed was really firm. Great location. A short drive and there is a great restaurant that has really good rum runners. Staff was great and helpful. The view was great.

“Never Again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

We arrived on Sunday for an 8 day vacation.. We were back home by Tuesday night and it couldn't have been sooner for me....

I will start with my one favorable comment - The woman in the office was extremely helpful and sweet. After that.. all down hill..

Begin with walking into the room where the elevator is..dirty and cluttered.
Then into the elevator that smells as though it may be the sleeping quarters for an old bum that urinates on himself! I dreaded coming and going as it meant getting in the elevator each time!
The room ..oh yes..the room... I found myself on three occasions checking for bed bugs in the bed and the sofa as being on this furniture made me itchy. The kitchen had no oven which may be fine in a regular hotel, but not when this is supposed to be a time share/resort.
The bathroom was dark, dank and nasty. We actually had to take bulbs from a lamp to replace the dim bulbs so we could use the bathroom.
The tile floors that were throughout - felt like you were slipping around on grease. The floors were filthy and we had to were socks the whole time.
The porch had nice view but you could not go sit out there unless you turned off the AC units before as they were wall units that vented out onto the screened in porch.
The building had such a strong mold smell that we got a headache and felt sick each time we re-entered the building. We could not sleep more than an hour at a time due to having breathing issues from poor air quality.
So in order to escape this horrific place, we went next to get something to eat --we ended up with food poisoning and were throwing up with in an hour of eating there.

That was all Sunday night.. Monday we tried to escape again only to realize that there is nothing to do at the hotel .. The hot tub is questionable and had broken controls, there is no place to even take a walk, the office was closed most of the time so I don't even know if they could have provided rackets for the tennis court .. I believe that locals may come here to use the pool as a community pool - showing up blasting music with kids running and screaming then leaving.. We were lucky enough to get to see the maintenance man crawling from the boat he must live on and coming into the building for his "morning ritual"..

The whole place was in poor condition and dirty..

“Great resort but no ocean access for swimming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

This resort was very nie and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was a little disappointed with the location (under the bridge) thinking that if would be loud or not have the resort like quality I was looking for, but I WAS WRONG. Once on the site, looking out at the water, there was no bridge sound and we felt totally immersed in the resort feeling. The grounds are a bit small, with no palm lined meandering paths I would have likes to see, but the views of the water made up for it. All balconies overlook the water, although you are warned not to swim off the dock due to crocodiles! The dolphins played just off shore and we were delighted to see the manatee come out from under the dock at dusk. Not the most luxurious resort you will find, but fun, well maintained and a fabulous staff made it a great place to stay. One thing I would have liked is an oven or toaster oven (as mentioned by other guests)

“Awesome View! Great Service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

I have enjoyed every minute of my stay here at the Anchorage! I hate to leave. The staff have been consistently helpful and friendly. The view is AWESOME! The room is very nice - feels homey with a comfortable sofa and recliner, has a king size bed with a good mattress. I love the 'sit-down' make up table area and the kitchen is great (only thing I would have liked more would have been a small toaster-broiler oven to re-heat left-over fried foods.)

It has been a joy to be able to leave my boat right in the water here at an affordable rate & very handy to have a place next door with a ramp, gas at the dock, & competent staff whom I felt could help if I ran into any trouble. Next door also has a nice restaurant & tiki bar.

I have seen complaints online about the noise of the bridge - which is no longer an issue due to the new bridge. I also had no problem with the music at the place across the water. The noise level wasn't excessive, I could not hear it AT ALL with the A/C on & they stop at a reasonable hour.

The pool, spa, patio area, etc. are all great. They have water accessible everywhere to make it easy to rinse off boats, self, etc. There are even indoor showers by the pool.

All in all, even though the Anchorage is an older facility, I have had no complaints and will return, I'm sure, repeatedly.
