“Great location, great people”

We stayed here on the recommendation of friends who had been here many years ago. At first we were surprised to learn that the "hotel" was made up of individually owned condo units that rent by the night, so each unit, while similar in layout, is furnished uniquely according to the owner's taste. It has a bit of a beach motel feel about it at first, but we found it to be serene and tending to cater to a quiet bunch. The units all have kitchens, which is handy if you stay long enough that you want to cook. Several nice surprises included the heated pool, the beach (with access to adjacent beach extending behind other condo units), the Tiki huts with picnic tables and gas grills, the lovely sunrises over the ocean, the Sunset Park two lots away from the Continental Inn, and the safe, self-contained and walkable community of Key Colony Beach (a different feel from the US-1 Marathon strip). The nicest surprise was the friendliness of the repeat snow-birds who came here year after year, tending to spend longer and longer periods of time at the Continental Inn.

“Beautiful, quiet, clean but dumb pool rules.”

Pool is only open sunrise to sunset. The whole complex is lovely, quiet and off the main road and when we were done for the day we wanted to continue our vacation, using the property after dark and sadly no pool use allowed. It was just 2 of us, on our honeymoon. It's a lovely place but it can't be appreciated after dark. Soooooo disappointing. Also the pool area has chairs and lovely tables with tiki umbrellas but NO food or drinks are allowed in the pool area. Weird huh? There are cigarette receptacles, so you can smoke at the pool but not have a beverage. Duh, why are there tables????? Also one day when we were out all day we came back to our door wide open, left open accidentally by housekeeping who went on after we left for the day. Very lovely and if you want to go into your room at dark this is your place, but we won't be back.

“Hidden Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The Continental Inn is a condo complex which rents units when they are not occupied by the owners. Its located in beautiful Key Colony Beach in Marathon in the Florida Keys. The units are basically a studio with a working kitchen. They usually have 2 queen size beds and a pull out couch with one bath. The rooms are big enough for 2, maybe 3/4 people, although they can accommadate up to 6. There are a few 2 bedroom units. There is daily maid service. They have a heated pool and their own private beach. They also have gas barbecues and tiki huts with picnic tables available for their guests. The cost of these units are a lot less than other's in the area, probably because they aren't full condo apts. Key Colony Beach is a hidden paradise. The residents try and keep it hidden. They have their own police and city counsel. Its a very quiet area with million dollar homes, a few restaurants, a small marina and a few local shops. Key Colony Beach is located approx. halfway between Key Largo and Key West. If your looking for a peaceful and quiet vacation, this is the place.

“Surprising”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed for 3 nights, rooms were spotless, had all we could think of in the kitchen, 4 queen beds at the 2 bedroom apt, large living room with l.c.d screen.
The swimming pool was heated and the beach was clean and had a hut with two large gas BBQ grills.
Just few minutes from 7 mile bridge and a bit over a hour to Key West.

Room Tip: Room 42 - 2 bed 1 bath

“A little piece of paradise!”

Wonderful staff! They were very friendly. Great amenities. So much nicer than a hotel. We loved having the option of preparing our own meals. The grills on the beach were a lot of fun.The beach is lovely. The pool is a bit small.

Room Tip: We were in room 32 which was lovely, but right off the stairs, so a bit noisy.
