We stayed at the Amelia Island Surf and Racquet Club in late July. The hotel was great. Right on the beach and very nice. There were 12 of us from the family and we had a total of three rooms. Each room was decorated differently, but all done very nice. Our room was a two bedroom suite. The room had a full kitchen, living room, two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a balcony. We had an ocean front room while the others had ocean view. We were very happy with our room. It was very spacious and gave the kids plenty of room to play when in the room, which wasn't very often. The beach was great. Very clean and easy to access from the hotel. We even saw a giant sea turtle one evening up on the beach laying eggs. The kids thought that was awesome. Although the hotel is made up of three different buildings which all looked full, the beach was not very croweded at all. There were people on the beach, but not overwhelming. The pools were also very nice. I think the most amount of people we had in the pool at one time was 10. It was so nice. It was like having your own private pool. The pools weren't huge, but plenty big enough to enjoy. We also felt very safe at the hotel as you had to have a key to get thru the gate to gain access to the hotel itself. I think the only negative thing I could say about this place was that it didn't have a hot tub, and it was a little difficult to find upon arrival. Once we located it, it was not big deal.
The island itself is great also. Plenty to do. We visited a fort, played miniature golf, did some shopping and ate at some great restaurants. We also took one day and drove to St. Augustine which was only about a 1 hour 15 minute drive. We would definitely visit this beach again and would stay at the same place. We had a great time and look forward to visiting again.
