On my second visit to Fairbanks House, I was accompanied by my husband of 42 years. I was no less impressed or in awe of the whole experience on my second trip as on my first. On my first trip, I was on a Girls Just Want To Have Fun trip with friends that I've known for 40+ years. What a great time we had. On that trip we were accommodated in one of the two bedroom cottages. We had plenty of sapce and privacy and yet were able to experience all of the ammeneties offered at the main house.
On this last trip, my husband and I were housed in a suite with a King Size bedroom, which was a treat in and of itself. We also had a good sized living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom with huge jacuzzi tub and porch overlooking the pool. This was originally the Nanny's quarters.
FB house is a true historical B&B. It is authentic from top to botton, not just one trying to look authentic. Each room has a very intriguing history.
The owners, Bill and Teresa are delightful, professional and extremely accommodating. They both have a sense of what it takes to make a B&B the award winning destination that FB house is. They will make every arrangement you need to make your stay everything you dreamed it could be, from dinner reservations, excursions on the island, and creature comforts for the beach.
They make an effort to make all of their guest feel welcome and included. The social hour is so much fun! We met six couples during our stay and found that we had a connection with two of them, just through conversation initiated by the owners. The couple we didn't have any connection to were on their honeymoon and just a pleasure to meet.
I highly recommend the horse and buggy tour through the historical district. We learned all about the mansions, who built them and when. Some of the homes in the historic district are still inhabitated by descendents of the original builder. At the end of our tour, we were deposited at our restaurant of choice for the evening.
I would also recommend the boat tour of the Amelia River. It is very rich in history of both the Amelia and Cumberland Island settlements.
When we returned home, I ordered a gift card for dear friends so that they could experience the trip like we did. They were much appreciative of our gift and can't wait for their trip to Fairbanks House.
You won't be sorry that you scheduled a trip to Fairbanks House.
