“Nice Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I chose Omni Amelia Island, as he traveled extensively and we were entitled to 4 free nights at any Omni. Unfortunately, we had to cancel Omni, San Francisco so this was a rescheduled trip.

If we were to have paid for the trip, then my review would reflect the previous statement of, "expensive, but great staff and nice accomodations". We were entitled to a suite and it was beautiful. However, I was a bit stunned to find that there was no wi-fi in the rooms.

The amenities are too spread out for my taste. I am used to staying at little cottages in Jamaica, Bermuda and Bahamas where everything is right there. Two steps to ocean and/or pool.

The food was great. The grits were amazing as well as their oatmeal and berries. The Verandah Restaurant was excellent. Room service was prompt and reasonable.

My biggest compliment to this resort is their Loyalty Ambassador, Tammy Barnes. She made everything happen and was just an absolute pleasure.

Took a day trip to Savannah one day and to St. Augustine on another.

Thank you for your wonderful review and excellent rating of our resort. As much as we love our San Francisco property, we are fortunate your trip plans changed and not only did you enjoy Amelia Island, but you took advantage of the short distance between Savannah and St. Augustine - convenient day trips. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our resort dining options, including room service and I have forwarded your comments to Tammy Barnes, who is a wonderful asset to our property. We hope to see you and your husband again in the future!

“Expected a 4 star hotel falls very short.”

This hotel is rated 4 starts, simply not the case. Although the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations currently the price charged for the room does not near reflect what you get for your money. The hotel is rated a 4 start is the WORST 4 start I have Ever stayed at. The hotel is old and not have wi-fi in the rooms and the beds are very uncomfortable. Sure you are not going to please everyone but the prices they charge for this outdated hotel is simply ridiculous. I have had better stays new hapton inns at half that cost. If you want something nice just spend the extra and get wowed and stay at the Ritz up the road. If you want to save money stay in the Hampton Inn in the historic district and you will enjoy it more. Overall the grounds are very pretty of the hotel but one of worst hotels I have stayed at for the star rating and price, way better places to spend money at.

We are very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us and that we fell short of your expectations. We are currently under-going an extensive renovation that includes the addition of 155 guestrooms, meeting space, enhanced beach club and pool area, as well as adjusting the ease of navigation throughout the resort slated to be complete in Spring 2013. Our rates are continually comparable to other hotels in the area and it is our mission everyday to go above and beyond our guests expectations. We hope you will consider visiting us again in the future, possibly when our renovation is complete. Thank you for your review.

“expensive but great staff and nice accomodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Recently my wife and I spent a weekend at this Omni resort. Ok first of all they have a deal on rooms in the off season so they state. We live in Florida and decided to check it out. The beach is not like the beach in the southern east coast of Florida, its grey with a lot of oyster shells and many other grey to black shells and very shallow. The Omni is a beautiful hotel which caters to mainly golfers, got nice courses and for those who are looking for golf its pretty nice. But and there always is a BUT. They have two places to eat in the hotel the menus are limited in selection. We went to the really upscale place on our last night. I ordered the Rib Eye bone in steak, I got about one third of the way into it and I ordered med rare and I ran into very Rare I would not and could not finish it. Now the hotel guy came over and ask me about my meal I showed it to him and the best he could do was offer to take it back and have it cooked more. What in a microwave, that is a sin in my book to do to a Rib eye. besides my wife was finished with her meal by the time he came over. It was too late to consider that. He should have written it off considering there was two thirds of the steak left.
Drinks are Very expensive, I drink single malt scotch OBAN if available, $ 17.00 a glass. Thats steep. Considering you get about 20 shots to a bottle and I can buy Oban at ABC for about $80.00 bucks, someone is making out on that bottle. They have shops very expensive over priced in our opinion, as were the meals and drinks. If you look at the room service menu you will notice that its actually cheaper to eat in your room with room service than it is to eat in the restruants in the place. Yea go figure that one out. The Rib Eye was $42.00 and they do not offer a baked potato nope no were we ate did we see one. Its Stone Ground Grits on or with everything. Now Im a Florida boy and I like my grits BUT not with a $42.00 steak. And beware, they add a 20% gratuity to everything even at the bar. That gets a bit steep. I think its over priced, and despite the great staff I mean great people We would never go back. The room we had was very nice and clean King bed balcony overlooking the ocean but the property is hugh, with condos on it besides the Hotel, and there is construction going on which makes getting around a bit of a chore. They do have shuttles that are quick and always available. There was one real down side, I wanted to go to the sports bar on property the Falcons nest, it was suppose to be open on Sat at 12:00 pm nope closed and no one inside even the staff did not understand that one. So buyer beware on this property and hotel go further south past Jacksonville beach and find yourself and Nice beach warmer water, cleaner sand and not as pricey. Good luck.

Room Tip: go for the King room with the ocean view

Thank you for your review of our resort. Our beaches are a tad different than the Florida east coast, however, no less beautiful, and perfect for shell enthusiasts. We are sorry to hear that your meal at our hotel restaurant - Ocean Grill - was less than satisfactory. I have forwarded your comments to our Director of F&B, as well as your concern over Falcon's Nest. And yes, we do our best to inform guests that a 20% gratuity is automatically added to all services. Overall we are very happy to hear you found our accommodations to be satisfactory. We hope you will consider visiting us again.

“Wonderful resort experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days right after Christmas. Everything about the resort was wonderful. Service was first rate, and the rooms were very nice with a view of the ocean. There are several restaurants on the grounds, and each of the ones we ate at were very nice - good food and excellent service. There are numerous activiies you can take part in from horse back riding to snorkeling, all arranged by the resort. This is a "no tipping" resort, but the caveat is that they automatically add 20% to your bill. All in all, a wonderful place that we would go back to when the opportunity presents itself. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms have an ocean view, as near as I could tell.

“Relaxing and quiet weekend getaway.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We've stayed here a few times the last few years and had very enjoyable stays. From walks/runs on the beach, relaxing on the beach or poolside (pools are awfully crowded usually though), riding bikes on the amazing trails, or golfing at Oak Marsh or the Ocean Links. The restaurants on site are very good and the breakfast buffet is really good. One knock would be the bathrooms in the hotel rooms are in need of renovation.

Thank you for your excellent review of our property. It's wonderful to hear that you have stayed with us several times and continue to enjoy yourself. One thing that keeps guests coming back is our wide array of activities and amenities! The hotel pool is currently closed for renovation, upon re-opening the poolscape will be much larger and will host 600 lounge chairs. We are also adding 155 guestrooms and suites, a parking garage, improving walkways, enhancing our dining options and building additional meeting space. We hope to see you again when it is complete!
