What a special place this is! It is right on the River and just far enough away from all the busy busy other resorts like McRae's that it makes you feel so at home. You don't have to pay extra for dockage or ramp use. We had a GREAT time! The rooms aren't even rooms, they are apartments - HUGE! Bedroom with 2 beds, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and deck area! The kitchen has everything you need. The grounds are very well maintained. There are only 6 apartments available so it is nice and quiet. Went scalloping and had a blast! They even have grills and charcoal you can use. I can't wait to go back and would recommend this place to everyone! LOVED The Last Resort!!!!! :)

We loved this place. If you stay in Homosassa, you need to stay here. Betty and Jerry, who own and manage The Last Resort, live right on the premises and are just wonderful. They treat you as a family guest and will do whatever they can to make your stay perfect. The resort consists of 3 buildings on stilts that have 2 apartments each. The apartments are modular buildings and aren't luxurious, but they're clean and have everything you need. The kitchen is very well-equipped (even wine glasses). All the apartments look out on the Homosassa River. There's a resident heron, Stretch, who'll come right up on your balcony and even into your living room if you look like you'll give him a snack. The view is gorgeous, the grounds are green and lush (Jerry works constantly to keep them that way, I think). We rented a pontoon boat from them and went up the river to right outside the state park and came upon 5 manatees! This absolutely made the trip. We had our snorkel gear and jumped right in with these wonderful creatures. They accepted us as one of them. Apparently this sighting is very rare in May. There's a large dock with umbrellaed tables for happy hour. And you have to go to the MargeritaGrill a mile or so down the road. Very local, very cheap drinks, and wonderful local seafood. I'd recommend overwhelmingly that you stay at the Last Resort. But hurry. Betty and Jerry have the place up for sale so they can go back north after 24 years of living here (?) and they're a large part of what makes this place so great.

Our stay was wonderful. The cottages are well equipped and the views are fantastic! They all overlook the Homosassa river. We watched dolphins and manatees go by during our stay. They also rent pontoon boats (reasonable) right there, so you can cruise the river or go 7 miles out to the Gulf of Mexico. The couple running it make you feel like family. Two thumbs up!
