Since some of the reviews I'd read weren't that great, I wasn't expecting much. We arrived at night and the place appeared dingy. Daylight brought a whole new outlook though. Even though the hotel is old, it seems they are doing their best to keep it up. The rooms were immaculate and my smoking room (different rooms on two weekends, since we stayed before and after a cruise) did not smell like anyone had smoked in it. The grounds were filled with tropical plants and it seems like the pool was situated to get the maximum daylight during these short winter days. The continental breakfast was better than I expected, and on both mornings there was a woman on duty to replenish items, make sure the coffee pots were full, etc. etc. The location is excellent, with dozens of restaurants within a few short blocks. There are a couple of computers in the lobby and the Internet service was fast. Although I will emphasize that I would not hesitate to stay here again, I did have 2 gripes. One was that the ramp for luggage was out of service so we had to lug our suitcases up 6-8 steep steps from the street. The second gripe was that the vending machines I tried were empty and my impression is that this was deliberate - so that we would have to buy our soft drinks from the gift shop area.
Again, this hotel was a very pleasant surprise!

Dear lindancer,
Thank you for your time, comments and choosing the Ramada Downtown Hollywood Hotel.
Our tropical paridise is in the middle of the Arts,Entertainment and Dining district, close to the beaches, airport/cruise port, and casinos a great place to start and end your cruise vacation. The ramp you mentioned is a new fixture to our hotel and is now open and being used. It does make it easier for rolling bags and luggage carts. I am sorry the soda vending machines were not full. It was an oversite not deliberate. We do have a convenience shop in our lobby as you mentioned and the sodas cost the same. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Thank you again for telling everyone about your stay.
