We stayed at the Comfort Inn for four days prior to embarking on a cruise and then for a day following the conclusion of the cruise. It met all of our needs at a bargain price. This hotel has created a niche business serving the cruise crowd. It provides free shuttles to and from the airport and the cruise port. Everybody we met at the hotel was either leaving on or returning from a cruise. On the day our cruise departed, there were seven other cruises leaving the Fort Lauderdale cruise port. The hotel and the shuttle service was very busy that day!
Before our cruise, we wanted to tour South Florida a bit and, with the hotel sitting just off the I95, it's easy to get to and from. The rooms were clean (although a bit dated) and the air conditioning worked effectively. The breakfast was excellent with a good variety of both hot and cold fare. The pool and the surrounding terrace were quaint and very well-used by guests. For northerners escaping winter, it was lovely to have breakfast in the warm Florida sun with cooing mourning doves in the background.
The shuttle service worked very well for us. They even picked us up at the airport when we returned our rental car on the day of our cruise and then dropped us at the cruise port. The front desk staff was personable and Henry, the bell man, was a character.
One bit of advice to those looking for a shuttle to the cruise port -- make sure you book your shuttle as soon as you check in. On days like the one we left, with eight ships leaving the port, some people cannot be accommodated.
